Blackstone Griddle Opinions

Never owned a griddle before but I like the heat dispersion on a large griddle surface for searing or cooking whatever. Also you don't have to deal with the juices falling into the burner area and destroying the heat dispersion plates and burners, or flaring and burning your food
Any thoughts?

I use my Blackstone griddle way more than my grill or smoker.

I have not grilled a hamburger in the 4 years I have owned my BS griddle.

You won't be disappointed with a griddle. Some people even put foil pans on them and use them to fry.

FIL got me a Blackstone for Christmas last year. My grill has since fallen into a state of disrepair and I remain unconcerned.

Great addition to anyone’s outdoor kitchen. Won’t replace a grill or smoker for me, but I like all the things you can do on a griddle. Have no regrets about buying a grill, a Recteq, and a griddle. Go get one

Definitely get one. I never use my grill anymore. I have bought four. One at home, the camp, at work and one for my daughter and son in law. I’ve given a few 27” as wedding gifts and they always maintain its their best gift.
So I’m sold

You can make the whole meal on a BS. Scrape, wipe and not clean a pot/pan.
It's not a smoker, so I don't know why people compare the two.
It's the singular, most versatile outdoor piece of cooking equipment.

I bought one of the little portable Blackstone for camping last year. I use it at the house constantly and even bring it to work to cook lunch/breakfast on the rare Friday's that I'm at the office. I'm planning on buying a full sized one soon.

Agreed. I still use my smoker a lot, but the Blackstone is extremely versatile and is excellent for a number of dishes.

I see they have several models, even some with air fryers. Any of them worth getting or just the standard 36 flat top?
What kind of maintenance do they require?

My wife hates when the cooking "stinks up the house" so it helps there.
I usually only cook for 2 but I still recommend getting the 48" griddle. the extra room gives you a hot side for cooking and one to keep warm or it you have guests over you can cook a lot at once.

I dont have the one with air fryers, but I can see their advantage, however I think you can accomplish whatever you are trying to do with the griddle alone.
minimal maintenance unless you neglect it. Hard cover with the soft cover will help keep it lasting long.
Once I am done cooking i crank the heat up scrape the food particles off, and then I'll get a cup full of ice to throw on there and deglaze it. Repeat once or twice if needed. Turn off the heat and with a paper towel spread a dab of oil on top, making sure to get in the corners and sides.

We have the 27” but I would recommend the 36”. Mine only has two burners and there are cold and hot spots. The 36” has three burners and should provide a more evenly heated surface. Important to season it initially and wipe with a little oil after use/cleaning to prevent rust.

love my blackstone. the only issue i've ever had is the grease cup is ridiculously small. i had to fashion a 5qt bucket to be able to cook the amount we cook.
PSA: the legs are foldable and the only thing keeping them upright is the bottom tray attached with 2 thumb screws. it's a good practice to check those from time to time.

It has 4 burners, really easy to get even or create hot/warm zones.

Two of my friends who ride bikes with us have them, so we use them quite a bit on weekends for our crew.
I'm tempted to get one. I've got a flattop attachment for my BGE, and I freaking love cooking on that thing. Constantly doing fajitas and such on it. Mine is something like this, but I believe it's a bit bigger:

I imagine I would love the Blackstone even more.

I got one not long ago. It took me a bit to get used to it, but I love it.
As far as maintenance, a good even first seasoning is the first step. I did 5 layers of seasoning on mine. After the seasoning, clean it well right away after cooking on it. I usually turn up the heat to max, scrape off any crud, give it a light rinse with some water and rescrape if necessary, then turn down the heat. Once it's cooled a little bit but still pretty hot, I wipe it down with damp paper towels and then a couple of grill wipes. Once it's all cooled down and I am ready to store it, I'll wipe on another light coat of oil before putting the cover on. It sounds excessive, but it doesn't take a huge amount of time and my seasoning has not cracked at all.
