I am 153 Premier qualifying points (PQP) away, this calendar year, from achieving 1K status. Can't find this info on the United site or the webz... My question, can I purchase a flight, not take the flight and still get the PQP?

They sometimes offer buyups for the airline programs if you need a boost at the end, but if you don't fly on the flight you book you won't get the credit. You could book a cheap roundtrip somewhere for a day? I can help with that if you go that route

I can book a same day round trip , leave at 6 am , return at noon… 57 minute flight each way , less than $300…. I’m just tired of flying.

I just pulled up the site to see if there was anything like a magazine subscription type thing that counted but nope.

Where do you want to go for a half day?

My choice for least costly ticket is Ohare or Dulles, won't even leave the airport or bring luggage. I guess I'll give the "special" premier status phone number, stay on hold for an hour and beg for a non-flight offer. Or just take the stupid flight.

Sounds like you have no travel planned through EOY. I paid up to F to meet the 200PQP threshold I needed but sounds like your best bet is just to take the flight.

You're a 1K that doesn't have access to a lounge?!

I had to do the same in 2019, took a cheap day trip to Houston to get 1K. Then corona hit and they kept extending status, so it ended up being a great decision.

1K's don't get automatic lounge access.

I would just do the short flight out and back even if it's a pain in the arse. Definitely worth it for 1K status given the big bump in PointsPlus.

They often will let you buy up early in the year, but they will charge a huge amount over the PQPs you had left in order to qualify.

I'm aware of that but, if he's flying enough to get to 1K and drinks $100+ worth of booze on a layover, a $700 a year lounge membership makes a lot of sense

In my experience, you have to actually take the flight to get credit for it. Sorry.
