Thinking about taking a family trip to the keys. Kids are 9&12 and want to go somewhere warm for Marsi Gras but dont have passports. Recs on activities and places to stay?

Stay in Marathon or Islamorada. We prefer the gulf side, find something on VRBO with a boat dock and rent a boat for your entire stay. We use A1 in Islamorada ( LINK).
Take the boat out to alligator point on a calm day for snorkeling. Spend some time at the Islamorada Sand Bar. Turtle museum in Marathon is fun for the kids. Florida Keys and Islamorada brewing are both nice finds. Day trip down to Key West with the seaplane out to the Dry Tortugas…take the morning flight and you’ll beat the big crowds who show up on the ferry. You’ll be back in the KW in time for lunch.

My wife and I just did a 5 day trip at Isla Bella in Marathon. The resort was awesome. 3 or 4 smaller pools near the room and then a big resort pool near the beach. All of the rooms have views of the water and a balcony. There were plenty of kids there, and daily activities for adults and kids, free bike rentals, and paid things like kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, boat cruises, and fishing.

Marathon or Islamorada
This. Have stayed at Hawk's Cay and it's really nice. They have a turtle hospital on Marathon. Fishing is obviously an option everywhere in the keys. Even if you don't charter you can still find one of the fishing bridges or fish from other land based points.
I have heard good things about Baker's Cay Resort in Key Largo as well.
