Flight Prices- are they ever coming down?

It's virtually impossible to get to Europe from Atlanta for under $1500 in the summer right now. When I went 8 years ago it was like $700. What are the odds these go down over the next 18 months or so?

Set up a Google flight alert and call it a day. You're looking 6 months in advance, plenty of time for prices to go down. Be on the lookout and if you find a price you think is reasonable book it. You can always get ecredits back if the price goes down after you book.

So when is typically the best time to book?
I'm actually looking for the Summer of 2024 (which I know you can't do) but just basing prices off of this summer.
The only airline somewhat reasonable is TAP Air Portugal, but I know nothing about them.

Summer usually is more expensive than the other months, but would expect one or two deals for Easter time soon so maybe March? Don't wait too long or they could skyrocket closer to flight time. Also the earlier you book any flight, the more likely you'll run into a schedule change where you can change to something better time/routing wise for free.

Summer may be different; but, I booked Tampa —> London- Gatwick ——> Rome ——> Tampa all direct in March for $620 per person. If anything; Atlanta should be cheaper. Deals are still out there.

Summer 2023 is going to be insane due to all of the pent up demand from folks who didn't travel during Covid. Expect prices to stay high for a while but if you're looking for 2024 you should see them start to drop.
Also, to echo what others have said, set up a Google Flights alert. Also look at some airports around Atlanta, flying out of ATL you have to pay the "nonstop Premium"

That's already come and gone..... if anyone still isn't traveling due to covid, they aren't suddenly going to start doing it in summer of 2023

What are the cheapest 1 way tickets you are finding leaving MSY around July 1st.
Can be flexible slightly on that date leaving July 2 or July 3, but targeting that week.
Fly 1 way somewhere then drive back.
I've been monitoring.... but let me know what you find. Plan is to road trip and see/do things on way back.

Considering most of Asia just opened up and the US was still requiring a negative test to get back in the country last summer, the airlines are seeing high demand and expecting record profits.

We're headed to Italy for 2 weeks next summer and the best I can find right now is ~$1700 for non stop out of Atlanta to Rome. Most connecting flights are about the same into Milan or Rome. That flight had comfort+ for right at $2k, which I'm almost willing to go ahead and pull the trigger on, since most other direct Delta coach seats are just under that.
I'm going to hold off for a while longer to see if there's any movement, but I don't think they're going to drop significantly. I've been looking for about 2 months now and they are slowly trickling down, but nothing more than maybe around $50/month.

Yea, I'm not expecting to pay $700 again but to double, or more, in less than 10 years seems extreme. I feel like around 1k should be doable but maybe I'm wrong. I'm not an OT baller and I've got to pay for 5 flights so every little bit helps.

I hear you. I'm paying for 4, so not looking forward to paying ~$8k just to fly.
You may be able to get them at $1k, but they've moved less than $100 over the last almost 2 months, so they've got some work to do before it gets too late and they hit a price point where they all get snatched up.

4 weeks ago a flight I was looking at was $1200/ticket. Booked yesterday for $560.
You just have to be patient. 3-4 months out the prices usually drop a bit.
