I’ve dug into Bandsplain and Beyond Yacht Rock. What are some other deep dive music-related podcasts worth trying out?

My faves:

Come To The Sunshine ("production pop", aka sunshine pop)

Echo Valley (bubblegum)

Honky Tonk Radio Girl (classic country)

Downtown Soulville (self-explanatory)

Teenage Wasteland was a great one but the guy quit during Covid and I can't find anyplace that archives the MP3s.

Little Steven's Underground Garage of course, is probably the most important music podcast of all, and inspired an entire Sirius Channel. It's especially great for Newbs, and you can DL episodes at the LSUG web site.

But my all time fave podcast was American Roots Radio, an eclectic hodge podge of American music from blues and hillbilly in the twenties through show tunes, honky tonk, soul, and garage rock. Created and hosted by, of all people, Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin. Aired on Sirius '10-'14; a handful of episodes are on Soundcloud, otherwise it's impossible to find.

Bob Dylan BION did a very similar show, called Themetime Radio Hour. IMHO not as good as Taupin's but not bad. It's on YT.

The Hit Parade

It's all about the charts over the years. He can make artists you aren't even vaguely interested in seem interesting.

Cocaine and Rhinestones is the one you want. Lots of cool stories I’d never heard. Tyler Coe is David Allen Coe’s son and he tells the stories.

The one about Spade Cooley was wild. Dude was crazy

This is Vinyl Tap

Dissection of classic and otherwise important albums from 60s-80s. Probably not for anyone under 45 unless curious about this period.

I'm glad that nobody has mentioned Disgraceland. It could be a great podcast with a better host.

The Big Takeover Show

Focuses mainly on newer and independent artists but digs into various older stuff including soul, R&B, country/western, and various older pop artists.

Yeah. I used to be able to only listen to it in bursts. Now, the episodes pile up in my feed and I just can't seem to push play.
