$250 not worth the hassle ?
The chimney brush and rod is pretty cheap

Depends. If you haven't cleaned the chimney in ages, I would recommend paying someone purely out of safety.
If you think you can do it yourself, go for it.

The HEPA filtered vacuum, and the knowledge to do the job correctly are not cheap.
I would get more estimates. I have mine swept every other year, and it was $130 the last time I had it done (Oct. 2021).
Unless you have some strange setup, it shouldn't be that expensive.
ETA: I am not the downvote, I'm just giving advice from a personal standpoint of having a wood burning FP in every place I have lived since I was born 57 years ago.

It depends on the slope of your roof and if you have any windows that give you easy access. Also, when you knock stuff down, will it fall into a wood stove, a fireplace with a securely closed fire door, or into the room without anything to stop it.
We burn wood for heat and clean our chimney every year.

We use a creosote log every year.
