1. Is not only now a “classic” rock album in a numerical sense (1997, so 26 years old)
2. Might be the best alternative album of the 90’s (there’s a long list I know)
3. I didn’t realize until recently that Dave Grohl plays every drum note on the album. Which shows the monster this dude was in his mid 90’s post-Nirvana era “peak”.
I knew he was the drummer on Everlong, but watching their documentary apparently he went back and re-recorded over their “original” drummer’s takes on an already completed album.. lol
DG is up there with the best of them in the history of Rock with his body of work. Can’t really blame the guy that he wasn’t around 15-20 years earlier, bc he would have fit right in with the names of that era too

I didn't know about item #3 either, but it doesn't surprise me at all when I think about how hard the drumming is.
As for item #2, lol no. Definitely a good album though.

I believe the album was re-recorded (Some years after the Foo Fighters became a real band) but the original LP was entirely Dave playing all the instruments.
It wasn't until he realized it was as big if a success as it became (He never really thought it would do much and really didn't record it thinking or hoping it would) anyway once he realized the kids were loving it and wanting more he realized he needed to have a real band to go out and play it live.
iirc, some years later after Foo Fighters had their established line up I believe it was re recorded with the read of the band playing their parts.
But that first release was every bit as goo as the re made one.
Dave was and is one of the most talented artist across many genres.

I agree with this. He's up there. Dude is ridiculous. Grohl can sing and play any instrument flawlessly.

It didn't change anything except for that band.

This is true. He's a perfectionist and Will Goldsmith wasn't cutting it. According to Goldsmith, Grohl recut the drum tracks before they parted ways. Who knows...
Fun fact: Grohl and Gil Norton wanted a very specific tight and punchy drum sound because the drum parts were so busy in many of the tracks, but weren't getting it due to cymbal bleed when the entire kit was set up and being recorded. So, Grohl removed the cymbals and played only the drums to each track, then went back and played the cymbal parts separately.
As a drummer myself who's done a little studio work here and there, I'm sure that was a pain in the arse but I can understand why he did it since it obviously gave him and Norton the sound they were looking for.

Dave Grohl said they have had a bunch of influences on them, but doubts the Foo Fighters ever influenced anyone. I can actually see that.

That's rather humble of him...but Foo Fighters are one of the biggest rock acts of the last 25 years. They've certainly had an influence on other musicians.

I always thought this was the case as well.

Self-Titled was Dave.
TCaTS was the band and Dave re-did the drums.
