South Louisiana. Building a set of stairs to access my attic and in one location the ceiling (either t&g or shiplap pine) will be installed directly to the underside of the 2x6 rafters. I will be installing insulation in the space between the ceiling and roof sheeting. Could this lead to any issues, moisture or otherwise?

Current: attic is unconditioned
ground floor is conditioned
there's insulation between the floor joists between the ground floor and attic.

Future:
Orange: uninsulated attic
Green: insulation
Blue: conditioned space

do you have vented soffits?

You should be able to install a baffle between the insulation and your roof so that air can flow from the soffit through the attic/roof vents.

Did you leave out this was unconditioned and now it’s going to be conditioned? I’m lost on what is changing? You are installing stairs, so does that mean you are also changing it from unconditioned attic to having an area that has HVAC now? Or did I miss something?

i will update the op but yes, the current situation is an unconditioned attic with insulation between the attic and ground floor. I have a pull down set of attic stairs. I'm installing a set of stairs to make accessing the storage area of the attic easier and the stairwell will become conditioned from the ground to the underside of the roof rafters.

Lowes has these baffles someone mentioned above. Leaves a 1” air gap between the insulation and roof sheeting for air flow. Once again the H&GB comes through.

Thanks!
