re: Shortstopping Ducks over 25 years not 20
Posted by baldona on 1/17/26 at 9:07 am to FlyFishinTiger
The issues are very simple. Animals, ducks and geese, want safety and food.
The major change is all of the safe habitat they have since the 90s and beyond from urban sprawl, industry, and most important power plants. The industry and power plants pump out hot water that’s used to cool the power plants and machinery into ponds that hold the water open for them to safely stay. No one is hunting those industrial parks. Then you have city parks, golf courses, etc.
Then you add in food. The reason for the 2nd migration is not the cold anymore as there is water left open. It’s food. Heavy snowfall covered the fields and food and forces them to fly south until they find the food.
I’m also fairly convinced that overtime the migrations have shifted west away from the heavy hunting pressure of Arkansas and Louisiana and into Kansas and Texas where there’s been less pressure.

re: AAA auto service is trash

AAA is just a 3rd party insurance essentially. I don’t know why a tow truck being late is directly their responsibility. Lets say they require vendors be there on avg in under 60 mins. It’s not their fault or to their credit if a guy shows up in 15 mins or in 120 mins.
They simply have a vendor network they use and rely on the vendor to follow their service contract.

None of the OP’s video was complicated. It simply takes more time. That has 0 to do with hiring mechanics. A mechanic is paid hourly to work on jobs, why does a mechanic care if he does 4 jobs that take 2 hours each or 8 jobs that take 1 hour each?
He doesn’t.
He doesn’t.

Yep. Into accounts that then ship it back to them
Why are they illegal or hated on Reddit? They burn wood? Does Reddit/ Libs hate wood now?
My aunt had one in her basement and it worked too well, you had to have a tiny fire in there or it would burn you out of the basement because it got too hot.
I remember she had a dragon tea pot she put on top and when the water was hot it blew steam out its nose.

re: Cost for trip to Italy?

When is peak season? My wife has been bugging me to plan a trip. Obviously I'd like to go when its not peak tourist season.
The summer is generally peak time June and July. Flights from the USA are generally going to be expensive when Americans want to fly.
A lot of Europeans take significant time off in August so things can close down. I think mostly this started because it was so hot that working was not worth it and they all went to the beach.

I'm 70 years old and this will most likely be our one and only trip there.
I'm budgeting $5000 pp excluding air.
How long are you going?
Where are you flying out of?
Are you retired? As in very flexible with dates? Like fly on Tuesdays sort of thing?
$5000 is a ton in Italy. Outside of lodging in big cities during peak times, fancy americanized things like tours, etc. you can visit there for very cheap.
Set some flight trackers. 2 people could easily do Italy for 2 weeks on $8000 including airfare.
Now you can easily spend $8000 each a week too. But it doesn't have to be expensive.

I have a house in Southern Italy (right below Bari).
I know someone that bought an apt for like $40,000 outside of Rome. I'm curious what the costs to maintain a home in Italy would be? Real estate is generally very affordable.
Costs like Taxes, minimal utilities when not in use, etc. I'm not that serious, but could be. I don't need to derail the thread though. I'd be curious to read your experience on the Moneyboard or another thread here.

From my online research, you have to have internet/ phone service to toggle it on and then it can only be used for 5 straight days. The people that know how to use it seem to be able to use it. The people that don’t, refer to the fine print.
I haven’t seen anyone that knows how to use it, try it out and not be able to use it.
I think the reason for the “12 miles” is that’s generally cell phone range. So they can’t promise anyone the ability to use it because you have to be able to toggle the settings with cell signal.
This is all mostly posts on sailing threads and what not, but I’ve yet to see anyone that knows how to use it have an issue.
I may try it this spring if there’s a return policy and update.
ETA: it seems like there’s legal issues because it’s not continuously allowed and you have to toggle it on with cell phone signal before leaving cell signal. So the fine print gives them a legal out

What I don’t understand is sure I get blaming the dodgers, but why aren’t the other big market teams even attempting to compete? Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, etc

Same and agreed. If you like outdoors, hiking, or running it's honestly a paradise and good food everywhere.
I haven’t been to El Paso in 20 years but I have been to west Texas recently. If you think El Paso is remotely close to any sort of Paradise, brother you need to get out of the bayou some more.
I lived in Alamagordo for 6 years as a kid and have tons of great memories. A visit is nice. But damn man I wouldn’t want to live there.

Just to confirm, are you suggesting good CEO’s spend unnecessarily on being overstaffed with under performers?
If O&G people are working 2-3x as hard now, why were they only putting in 30-50% effort in the first place? Because they certainly can’t do more than 100% effort.
I love how someone that makes $30 mil a year cuts costs and they are automatically a bad person. A CEO spending more money and hiring extra is not always a good decision for the company either.

solid get but I'd be looking for the next Ben Johnson/mcvay.
It’s not like a new young HC is around every corner, probably 80% of these new guys hired don’t work out. When you haven’t won consistently in awhile going with the older proven guy makes a lot of sense
re: Best / Worst NFL Stadium Locations:
Posted by baldona on 1/15/26 at 6:36 am to StraightCashHomey21
Many of you don’t realize that tons of local NfL fans prefer parking lot stadiums. NFL fans are mostly blue collar people that want to easily get to the stadium (usually driving), park, go to the game, and get home. Parking also allows tailgating, when nfl games are expensive some people really enjoy making it an all day affair by tailgating.
Lot of bears fans hate not being able to park and walk to the stadium easily. It also prevents people from going to games because it can make a 3 hour a game a 6-8 hour ordeal.
Great metro service is certainly preferred also, but smaller cities people don’t give a shite as most aren’t taking a metro anyway. But yeah places like NOLA and Nashville with parking but also walking distance to downtown seems like the best option.
I’m just saying the best stadium for visitors staying in a hotel downtown does not necessarily equate to a stadium good for locals.

What time of year OP? Assuming summer?
First time there?
I just got back from Italy Thanksgiving week and there’s just no way I’d suggest a first timer Europe trip to Italy in the summer. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted, but Italy is just dirty and crowded and hot in the summer.
Here’s what I like to recommend, one of two trips to get a lot of cultural/ country differences. People will say it’s a lot for 10 days for a first timer and it’s not a little, but it’s easily doable and you get to see a great variety. I personally prefer variety I just don’t like to do the same thing for 10 days.
Fly into London
Train to Paris
Train to Belgium
Train to Amsterdam, fly out
Fly to Munich
Train to Innsbruck
Train to Verona (on the train route and is a nice city with a colesseum, castle, and anything Italian you want)
Train to Venice (lot of Italy options from Verona it’s just on the way, but Venice is closest)
Fly out

Budgets going to matter OP, dude ranches in the Jackson Hole area are $$$$$.
Im pretty sure Triangle X is one, no experience other than fishing there.
But Id think "dude ranch jackson hole" would have a ton of hits.

We flew Delta from Italy to Atlanta and they have free Wifi for Tmobile users. It worked good enough the entire time to text and send emails, and what not.
I don't see any reason to allow people to stream video when they offer a lot of in flight streaming options.

People in Japan, and Tokyo in particular, work ridiculous amounts.
People say this but most countries take tons more Holidays and vacation time than the U.S. Tokyo maybe, maybe outworks NYC but they don’t on avg outwork Americans.
They may work long days but then have 3, 3 days weekends a month. Sort of thing.
