I haven't seen my rates for next year yet, the portal opens at my company in a week.
I priced out some plans on the Gov Exchange, was honest about all income, and the prices were still at or below what I'm paying through my employer plan.
I'm considering just dropping my employer plan and going with the exchange.
First of all, can I do that? Or is the exchange only for people who don't have an employer option?
Secondly, what am I not considering, what how why, are the self-paid rates shown on the exchange lower than my employer subsidized plans, for apple to apple coverage?

apple to apple coverage?
May not be apple to apple coverage.
Different hospitals, providers/physicians that may be in network with your employer plan, but not the exchange plan.
Additionally, need to look the differences in coinsurance and co pays between different plans. Lastly, there may be differences in what's actually covered- weight loss surgery, infertility, etc. As well as what meds are covered. You need to look through the policies of eqch.

On Healthcare.gov there is a cost estimator for you to enter your providers, any prescriptions and estimated number of Dr visits to estimate total annual cost.

Usually employer insurance is better, but maybe ACA supplements are playing a role.

I found the cost estimator is not accurate and when I went to sign up the price tripled.

I believe if you are offered employer coverage you do not qualify for a subsidy in the exchange. Which if you do not get a subsidy the plans / cost are really bad.

Does your employer not cover a portion of your premiums?
I doubt the individual exchange policy will be cheaper than a group policy especially if your employer is covering some of it.
