i think most of the startiong spots are given, especially in the infield.

but in the outfield, i think its safe to say landry and jmitch have 2 of the spots filled, but whos the 3rd OF?

jones? dean? pontiff?

Dean or Mahtook. Slight edge to Mahtook depending on how he develops.

Pontiff will have his same role as always, and Chad Jones probably won't play any.

I think Dean will start...Mahtook is a true freshman, but he will be the real deal in the future...Great Baseball player

Mahtook, a really good friend of mine, will be most likely starting in RF.

I worked out with him the other day, he's gonna be a huge contributor to the team this year

Mahtook is definitely ready to play now.

Wasn't he our highest drafted player to come to LSU this year?

I think the question with him is more along the lines of will he even be on the team. There's 36 guys on the roster right now which means 1 still will be left out come games.

Helenihi played great at 3B last year when he took over for Hollander for a few games. If he can get his swing back like it was in the early part of last season, he'd be a defensive rock and a good bat.

I also hope Ochinko can get his swing going again. He wasn't great, but he was better his Freshman year. He didn't get regular at-bats last year, and I think that's why he was down a little. With regular at-bats playing 1st he should be fine.

I also like Dean at DH so he can concentrate on being even more of a beast than he already is.

What I wonder, is who will lead off? I can't really see Landry leading off, if it was up to me, I'd keep him batting towards the bottom of the line-up. I like Mitchell batting in the 2-hole.

You want your lead-off hitter getting on a lot.

Not this year, but wasn't Jared Mitchell a 10th rounder? Those who know Mahtook is he as good as Jon Zeringue was coming out of high school. I remember Zeringue was a 3rd rounder out of high school. The highest player drafted ever to go to LSU and it still took him a year just to adjust to the SEC. It is a tough jump in one year.
