Fishing in Atchafalaya Basin

My wife and I were driving to Texas through the Atchafalaya Basin on I-10. Stopped at the welcome center there to use the restroom. Before the welcome center, I noticed a few boat ramps under the bridges but then looked at google earth and noticed that there isn't much water except whats under the bridges until you get to Lake Bigeaux. I guess my main question is, how's the fishing there? What is mainly being caught?

The boat ramp by the welcome center puts you in the Lake Bigeaux area. Bream and bass are we went after the few times we fished there. They also have catfish as well.

What you are crossing is Henderson lake which is cutoff from the rest of the Atchafalaya Basin
here is much better fishing in other areas of the basin.
Bayou Sorrel
Bayou Pigeon
Belle River -Basin side
Flat lake
All depending on water levels of course .

I had the one of my most memorable days fishing ever fishing with my dad in a small canal just off of Henderson Lake probably 20 years ago. Bass were smashing a chug bug on top of the water from sun up until we left mid afternoon. Sunny, cloudy, windy, calm, it didn’t matter they just jept biting. We caught 70 fish that day and there were several 3+ lbs. Two days later I went back with my grandfather, and it was not quite as on fire but we still caught probably 30-40 fish that day.
I don’t know if I’ve ever caught another fish in that whole area after that week.
