Haven’t been to one of these in awhile, but didn’t realize that it has creeped up in costs. I’m seeing $75/hr at some places just to rent the bay and sometimes minimum of 2 hours.

8% drop in sales this year and Callaway (owner) is doing a full review.

Yeah, but top golf was up 5%.

The Q2 earnings report showed that Topgolf accounted for $494.4 million of the company’s second-quarter revenue, compared to $413.8 million for its golf equipment and $249.6 million for its active lifestyle brands (including Jack Wolfskin outdoor gear and Ogio bags and luggage).

Top Golf is like a Jet Ski. Fun the first few times you do it, but gets boring really fast.

Reminds me of Planet Hollywood in the 90’s.

Well the X link is definitely misleading.

#UNDER REVIEW — Callaway Golf is reportedly conducting a ‘Full strategic review’ of its Topgolf business, per
@FOS
. The company is reportedly disappointed with financial results of its driving range entertainment venture that has seen an 8% drop in sales this year. .

I guess they didn't read the article.

While the company cites an 8.2% decrease in golf equipment revenue as the primary culprit of lost revenue—and even notes a 5% increase in Topgolf revenue

Because it is expensive and people don’t have the discretionary income like they used to.

Top Golf is good for team building type stuff.
Hail and farewell.
Teenage birthday or graduation party.
Bachelor party.

I play over 100 rounds of games of per year so I’m not drawn to it, but I did it once with friends on a rainy day.

It was fun. Food wasn’t bad. We had a good time.

The food at the Lafayette one is pretty good. I like their tacos.

This. They started in major market cities with huge population bases so they had plenty of people that could do it once or twice a year. They also drew people who were visiting the cities cause if was something cool they couldn’t do at home. Places like Laffy and BR count on repeat business too much to be sustainable. What eye sores these places will be when they decide to shutter them in the smaller markets

What’s a smaller market in your opinion? Baton Rouge sized city or even smaller than that?

It’s a good market for Orlando, Myrtle Beach, and Las Vegas.

Problem with top golf is you grab a beer, maybe an appetizer, and bam, you got a $200 bill

Agree with all this. For a normal golfer, the novelty wears off in about 5 minutes and you’re like why the frick am I paying $100/hr or whatever it is to pound shitty balls with shittier clubs?

I also agree that it’s in some terrible markets for the long term.

Food is pretty good though.

There was a huge race to the top in the mid to late 2010s and you had to gain your market share then to become a hit. There were a bunch poised to do really well, like Flying Tee in Tulsa, but they got crushed by the behemoth, Top Golf. Same is happening now with indoor commercial golf simulators.

Went for the first time last week with my kid. We rented it for an hour, I got a sandwich and she got some tenders.
$92 with tip. We will go back bc I think it’s a fun way to get her into golf, but not too often.

Not surprised. We were looking to join a private golf club in Charlotte NC that didn't have crazy initiation fees (like Carmel CC's $85k and multi-year waitlist), so I did the math for joining TG's "membership plan"... it was way too expensive.

And all theses high tech golf simulators are popping up around town, but they're in bougie locations that are too expensive. Why not open one in a industrial park so people can actually afford play these things.
