Pre-workout supplements

Are the pre made PWO worth it? What are some you recommend? What are the key ingredients to look for in a solid PWO? TIA

Stay away from any preworkout that has any type of "proprietary blend." That basically means they're not sure how much of the ingredients are in there, if any of it. Things you want to look for is how much caffeine is in the pre, also the niacin and beta alanine. Depending on your body, I wouldn't go above 300 mg of caffeine for most folks. Most preworkouts have about 200 mgs+. Beta alanine about 1500-2000 max, and niacin about 30ish mg. There's several good brands out there. Personally, I like Bucked Up, C4, and Boneafide Nutrition's brand.

L-Citrulline
Just an amino acid. The body takes this and changes it into L-arginine and nitric oxide, which helps open up your blood vessels for better circulation and protein distribution. Not a bad ingredient to add, but if you really want to get a good dose of amino acids, I'd recommend a good BCAA supplement.

I moved to Transparent Labs the last few months, and really like it.
Transparent Labs - BULK
It doesn't taste as good as all the other brands...likely because it doesn't have any of the additives the others do.

Caffeine for energy, creatine, beta alanine for the tingle (plus whatever it really does), citrulline for the pump, some salt/potassium, something for flavor.
That's how I make mine.

This is no joke. True story: I was taking Jack3d and interviewed for a job. Did my employee drug test and popped a positive for meth.

Same, except I have the Lean instead of Bull. I’ve liked it so far!

I've wondered what the difference is between the two. But haven't wondered enough to research it.

Isn't Lean stim-free while Bulk has caffeine?

Agree with Beachdude about being cautious with “proprietary blends” listed on the labels. Some of those “blends” cause cardiac arrhythmias, particularly prolonged Q-T intervals. Perhaps someone else can chime in on what ingredient is most responsible for this.
Many years ago I drank a pre-workout drink, can’t remember the name, and it’s no longer on the market, but it gave me an arrhythmia once that lasted 4 hours until my body digested/metabolized it out. That was a very uncomfortable feeling and I never bought it again after that episode.
I drink C4, but don’t consume the whole thing, which the label says is 1 serving. I drink half the bottle to get a little boost, but want to avoid potential adverse responses.

I know coffee isn't the best pre-workout on the planet, but it is my go to choice. I try to stay as natural as possible and coffee gets the job done very well.

My old trainer and powerlifting team captain used to mix C4 into his morning coffee.

Coffee is a perfect pre-workout...right after you add creatine and beta alanine.

depends on what you want
if you want energy then make sure it has caffeine
if you want gains then make sure it has or you are taking creatine
beta Alanine will give you those tingles and face itching but not a ton overall in terms of gains last time i looked at studies
if you want mind blowing pump- Cialis and Citrulline

They both have caffeine, but they do have a few differences in concentration of ingredients. The biggest difference seemed to be that Lean has an ingredient that supports thyroid health.
