Just got some horrible news. I have to travel to Abu Dhabi on 8/31 and will be there for the opening game. Can anyone give some advice on how to watch game there? I have Fubo but I know it doesn’t work internationally. I have never subscribed to a VPN but would that be possible? And would I have to get a subscription to Fubo or Hulu over there? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Express vpn lightway. about $150 for a year

Use on iPad or whatever. Makes it look like you are in USA. Then use whatever app you’d normally use to watch i.e. ESPN app or whatever network app or service provider you use in USA

I've watched many games from Abu Dhabi. VPNs are super easy to use and pretty cheap. I'd get it installed before you go though I think they might be blocked from what I remember

We all got hammered over there watching LSU beat Georgia in 2018. Good times. If anyone tells you anything about how you have to worry about being out and drinking over there its bs

The time difference absolutely sucks for watching live US sports though

The bar at the Sheraton should have the game available. And sometimes the Abu Dhabi sports channels on Etisalat will broadcast ABC/NCAA games.

There are a number of sports bars that will have
College game, but they may close before the game is over.

Apple TV may also broadcast the game.

I believe the game will start at 3:30 am there. Gonna need to catch this one back where ever he is staying. I used to love 11am kickoffs while I was over there because you could actually go out and watch it somewhere on your phone

Thank you everyone. Just installed the vpn. Hopefully it works. 3:30 might be rough but who knows with jet lag.

I have watched LSU games all over the world on the CBS sports app on an iPad, but this is on ABC (no idea who owns them now). You may need a VPN now, but you can also get a free trial for most of them. Do NOT use anything free. Many apps (it seems to change on the regular) will check to see if a VPN is running, and just refuse to let you watch live content if one is turned on, so test it during the trial. Download one, turn it on in the US, connect yourself to a US endpoint, and see if it lets you connect and stream live content.

More importantly... You're buying booze in Abu Dhabi from the hotel bar. It's expensive, unless it's happy "hour." You can buy 20 beers at 7PM the night before the game airs, and ask them to give you an insulated bucket so you can get them cheap, and drink them at 0330 or whenever. At least at the Marriott I stayed at a few times, the helpful Croat bartender would also sell me beers for the night before happy hour ended and stash them for the next couple of hours so I could get 'em cheap ($5 vs $10 each). Depending on who you're working for, Sunday is a working day (not sure if there is a UAE/Abu Dhabi holiday that weekend,) so the booze advice for the game may be irrelevant.

Even if you don't want it, make sure to hit the duty free for alcohol (and potentially tobacco) when you land. IIRC, you get 12 beers or two .75L. Even if you don't smoke, for instance, it can make people like you a lot, lot more, while you're working there.

I'm not sure if you're landing on the 31st or what, but you may want to push for flying in a day or two earlier to adjust. Landing in the UAE at 3AM after transferring in FRA/LHR/etc, is not a recipe that works well for showing up to work the next morning.

Also this. It's nothing to spend a couple hundred bucks on a night out over there

If it’s 4:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, it’s 3:00 a.m. in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately, Abu Dhabi’s sports bars, of which there are many, close at 2:00 a.m. on overnight Sundays. Good luck!

Best VPN Options for Abu Dhabi

List of Abu Dhabi Sports Bars open for earlier Saturday games (most bars close at 3 a.m. overnight Saturdays).

They have liquor stores in Abu Dhabi. 3 of them not far from the Sheraton. You don’t need a special license to purchase. Just roll in and load up.

OP make a trip to the African+Eastern the day before the game. If you are brave hit up 49ers before the game starts.

For VPN I used Nord VPN there.

Most people in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones very much but people in Abu Dhabi do!

When I was in Dubai, I used SMART Vpn (it was recommended by the hotel where I was staying). Seemed to work fine for accessing all sites. It would ocassionally time out and I would have to restart. So that's an option.
