Need advice on fasting

Recently - I thought I had diverticulitis and I fasted to resolve symptoms. I felt the best I felt in a long time due to anti-inflammatory impact. Joints didn't hurt felt 10 years younger.
I am a fatty and type 2 diabetic so hoping to help with that as well. Probably on the cusp of getting put on glp1
I am leaning towards a 5:2 - 5 days eat healthy 2 days fast.
Guess I am curious people who have tired it if they have advice / pro tips

Why do 5:2 that sounds absolutely miserable, I see people with diabetes have a lot of success doing 16:8. Not sure if 16:8 would help with your diverticulitis, I know eating right can. My MIL has it and of course she eats horribly and complains that she can't get rid of symptoms.
I am type 2, not fat, eat right, exercise and don't really fast a set schedule anymore. I did do 16:8 roughly until i started weight lifting, I break that with a protein shake in the mornings now.

Turns out just inflamed colon on anti inflammatory
Last month been eating salads not sure if that impacted it. Honestly when I did the fast I was not miserable.
16:8 was the other option I guess I will see what feels best but I just overall felt better no knee pain etc

16:8, low carb, cico, exercise. You will lose weight, diabetes number should improve. Diabetes runs in my family on both sides, keep it at bay as long as you can by doing what you can.
If your MD puts you on ozempic or something that will help with weight loss, make sure you get enough protein so you can maintain or grow muscle if you're working out. Lots of folks way smarter than me here on that topic.

quote:I’d start with something more sustainable like IF 18:6. It worked wonders for me. I tossed In a 36 hr fast occasionally but not weekly.

What’s the hold up? Sounds like something you would 1000% benefit from.

I wanted to share my fasting hacks. Tips and tricks to get through the day (skipping both lunch and breakfast) with under 10 calories total (and zero carbs). I usually make it 20 hours M-Th with the regimen below.
Starbucks nitro cold brew. The nitrogen makes the coffee creamy AF. 16 ounces has only 5 calories and zero carbs (pic below).
Sauerkraut (live / probiotic kind in your refrigerated sections) - great for your gut health and again a fantastic "cheat" for only 5 calories.
Kimchi - same as sauerkraut
Other cheats: Adderall and Ketamine (I don't take these every day but they also help curb appetite and help me get in different states of work flow where the clock just MELTS away).

Oh yeah, Adderall and Ketamine, glad you mentioned those 2 common and easily obtained substances that are regularly used by people who fast for health purposes.

They're not necessary at all and I put them last b/c they require prescriptions.
Ketamine is very easy to get - you can book a video appointment this afternoon and have your shipment arrive as soon as Tuesday for about $100 / mo by using any number of apps.

Id say listen to your body. Its not rocket science, if something you do makes you feel better do it as much as you safely can. Id think itd be hard to consistently fast for 48 hours straight every week but try it. If you cant sustain it just rework it.
I think you may be seeking some affirmation that fasting works...it does for many things

I also do 8/16 intermittent fasting. I also incorporate a 24hr fast once a week, maybe once every 2 weeks, it all depends. I like doing my 24hr fasts from lunch to lunch the next day. It makes 24hr fasting really easy. Hope that helps, good luck.
