Got any good date cooking ideas? I just had dates and peanut butter for a snack, and it was delicious.

Dates are excellent in pastries

Look up Date Nut Loaf recipes. I have one that I use and it is killer and a hit with all I give loaves to. I have no issue sharing recipes and if you'd like, I'll post it tomorrow, just let me know if you're interested.

I try to eat walnuts every day for health reasons, and stuffing them in a few dates is my favorite way to eat them. You've got to be careful though. If you're not paying attention you can eat 4-500 calories of them pretty quickly.

Who doesn't love dates... I would love some more date ideas
I usually get them from A-Z in different varieties. So good on their own but I use them in dishes- Persian rice for example or just with cheeses, olives and pate'.

Wrap in bacon. Bake or fry. Drizzle with honey or balsamic. Enjoy.

Who would DV dates in pastries. Must be in the sway of Big Baklava.

2 negatives: dates are expensive and high in potassium (if you need to cut back) otherwise I'd eat them all day long. stuffed w/cream cheese.

Agreed. When I travel in the ME I eat a lot of fruit, pastry, baklava and so on.
If I don't know what it is, or I even suspect it's lamb or a goat then I'm out, I'm just not down.
And obviously it's up to me to fit in, not for them to accommodate me and send out for pizza or whatever.
It's like traveling in the Far East, you will run across some really disgusting dishes but there are ways to navigate those waters.

Then give this a try. Date Nut Loaf Recipe
1 cup dates, pitted and cut into 4 pieces each
1 cup walnuts or pecans broken up into smaller pieces
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup butter-----1 quarter pound stick
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and flour a 9 x 5 loaf pan
In a saucepan over medium heat add the cup of water, extract and sugar and let that come to a low boil so they incorporate well. Turn off heat and add the stick of cold butter to melt along with the cut up dates. This will cool the mixture.
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, nuts and the cooled down liquid and mix a bit, then add the beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour this into the loaf pan and bake at 350 between 55-60 minutes. Remove at 55 minutes and do the toothpick test to check to see if the loaf is done, if not, return it to the oven and check again in about 5 minutes. You want the toothpick to come out clean when stuck in the thickest part of the loaf.
You can also use this part of the recipe for a sauce even though I've never found it necessary as the loaf is plenty sweet enough on its own.
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
Melt the butter, add the sugar to dissolve, then add the heavy cream and cook down until desired thickness. If you want to get a bit adventurous, you can add a bit of bourbon or rum to this.

Date milkshakes or ice cream. When I lived in Texas, there was a restaurant attached to a gas station that had both on the menu. They were amazing.

I was at a wedding where they offered Dates stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped in bacon with a honey glaze. I only ate about 15.

Dates, walnuts, orange zest and juice in the food processor. Pour into a pan and put in refrigerator. Cut into bite size pieces. Sweet and delicious.

Dates stuffed with manchego and Spanish chorizo and wrapped in prosciutto. Baked/air fried for a few minutes.
Also, Francis Mallman has a ribeye and salad (with dates) recipe that is fantastic. LINK
