Just hearing about this project from the Jim Henson Company. Sounds like it could be really interesting with a good cast & a different perspective on the classic Beowulf story.

Is it like the book Grendel by John Gardner? The famously existential/nihlistic book? They’re adapting that? The book is a super bummer. Grendel spends the entire book moping around wondering what’s the point of anything so might as well eat some people even though eating people kinda makes him feel bad. It’s like Depression the book

I read that in High School ( looong time ago). the point I got was that humans were so bad (to each other), that they deserved to be eaten.

I also read it when I was in either middle school or high school. The point I got from the book was there’s no point to anything so what you do doesn’t matter.
It’s a very interesting book…. But extremely extremely intellectual and I found it very depressing
Also, the majority of the book is just inner monologues to describe why he does or doesn’t do something. How are they going to depict that. Cause he is just a ferocious beast to everyone else

Who wants to bet that Grendel is misunderstood and partly the victim?

Um…. Yeah, that’s the source material from 1971

Sounds like. But the upside is movie/ show adaptations of books are usually poor to the source material so it may be an improvement?

Don’t give me wrong. The book is effective for what it is. But for the stupid phrase that gets thrown around of being “unfilmable”, I think this probably is.
See, the book is very essay like. Grendel sees an animal…. And then the book spends the next 7 pages going over Grendel’s thought process that animals are unworthy of his attention because their lack of sentience is insulting
