Whole Home Surge Protectors

Has anyone here added a whole home surge protector? A few days before the hurricane, we had some sort of a surge that kicked all the breakers in our outside office, and fried my AC compressor.
I just had the compressor replaced but while I was at it, I added a surge protector to the HVAC disconnect box. ($66 on Amazon)
My house has a main panel outside that feeds my:
Range, AC, pool equipment , outside office and subpanel inside the house
The subpanel is tight inside, but I'm assuming I would want to add the surge protector to the main box outside by the meter and that should shield everything down the line? Trying to find a clear answer/example online has proven a little difficult this morning.

Yes - I installed one last March when I had electricians in the house associated with an interior renovation. Also installed a portable generator outlet & interlock kit at same time. The surge protector is Installed on the main panel (outside) & requires a spot for a 20 amp breaker.
This is the whole house surge protector I selected & my set up. I did have to install a new main panel outside to accomodate the addition of interlock kit- generator outlet & surge protector as the original main panel with the house build only had a single location for the main 200 amp house breaker, and no additional breakers could be added to the old main panel.
I was pretty happy I installed it as I had 6 brownouts-surges from 7-10 pm with H Francine though never lost power. I also have a separate surge protector on the HVAC condensing unit that was installed with a changeout in Feb 2023 - before the whole house surge protector was installed.

Do you have a link?
A link to what - the whole house surge protector or something else?
I bought the Siemens FS140 after doing some on-line homework. Lots of YouTube videos of persons installing them on their homes. But there are many options available.
Just Google Siemens FS140 surge protector - I bought mine on Amazon but others online vendors sell it. I did discuss with it the electrician before buying it and he gave me the OK.

Thanks for the detailed info and help as always! Much appreciated. I'll probably read up on the brands and options, but this one looks very solid and highly recommended.
ETA: I see they just phased that one out and changed to the BoltShield FSPD140.

You want the cable from the surge protector as short as possible.
