Biopic on the band Sublime moving forward

3000 Pictures‘ biopic on the Long Beach band Sublime is gaining serious traction and some major talent as sources tell Deadline that KJ Apa is attached to star as Bradley Nowell in the film, with Justin Chon on board to direct. Chon is also writing the screenplay with Bobby Hundreds, based on Chris Mundy’s original draft.
Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready from Chernin Entertainment are producing the film, which is in development. Original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson are executive producing along with Nowell’s son Jakob Nowell — who now is Sublime’s lead singer — and widow Troy Nowell on behalf of the late singer’s estate. Francis Lawrence also is executive producing, as is Jamie Spetner, Director of Development at Chernin Entertainment. Marisa Paiva is overseeing the project for 3000 Pictures.

This could be really good if done right.

Definitely recall being shocked when Bradley Nowell OD'd right as they were peaking.
Also curious to see how/if they address the validity of this song.

Theories have developed about the true integrity of the song's lyrics. The acts of crime including arson, robbery, and vandalism referenced in the lyrics were purportedly committed by Bradley Nowell and other Sublime band members during the 1992 LA riots.

I could never get into their music. Unlistenably interchangeable with 311, IMO.

I loved both
Although neither aged particularly well (Sublime better than 311 IMO). 311 was all about live shows for us.

I didn't find them interchangeable, I listened to both and thought they were distinct from each other.
I can say that some Sublime songs have aged pretty well.
No 311 songs are listenable for me anymore.

This wouldve been cool 20 years ago

Real talk, never liked that band
Blew my mind how many people liked them, I felt like Stan Marsh listening to "tween wave"

Jesus how did I still know every work to April 29 1992. I haven’t listened to that in decades

I dunno. I have started listening to Sublime again and their ability to mesh and flip in/out of different styles is pretty impressive. I didn't appreciate it at the time.
40 oz to Freedom also is one of the rare examples of covers exceeding the originals, in some cases. Kind of just shows their range and ability to mash up genres.
On that note, What I Got low key sucks, though.

Seed is a perfect example. Meshes like rock, punk, ska and reggae in a couple verses.

If I was not at home overseeing the cleaning person I was going to link that exact song and play it very loudly
Now literally no one knows what he says in that song but the musical aspect is elite

I imagine if it fails at the box office while being good we're only gonna die for our arrogance.

Same, I liked the song "Santeria" but that is where it ended.
Did they release a drink similar to Mike's Hard Lemonade?

Yeah I agree. 20 years ago people like me who liked them in the 90s were still young enough to care about this. Now my middle aged self doesn't gaf about a sublime biopic.
Plus 20 years ago you had derivative bands like Pepper that were popular.

I kept trying to hit the downvote over and over.

I had zero interest in sublime, or any similar music/bands back in the 90s, but have really come to appreciate them as time passed.
I think their music has aged very well.
