Preseason is picking up and it’s a good reminder about how terrible the “media” is around lsu baseball and the wider college baseball world.

On his podcast about the incoming freshmen Musso gushed about Braun because of his showing at the mlb combine. He specifically talked about how what he did outshone guys like Jared Jones and Ethan Frey at the combine. Except Jones and Frey were still playing for lsu when the combine happened and only participated in an interview event scheduled for after the CWS.

On a big ten preview podcast from some show I don’t remember they talked about Mic Paul as a pick to click for Washington because he can be a utility guy playing all over the field and even getting run at 2nd base. Left handed Mic Paul is a 2nd baseman now according to these guys.

Just be wary of what you’re listening to. Most of these guys don’t know their arse from a hole in the ground and just make things up to fill time.

He is listed as a junior. Since his first two years were at a community college, how much eligibility does he have? I assume the Pavia legal ruling applies to baseball.

He has two years. The pavia ruling didn’t apply to anyone but pavia.

you don't have a god given right to go all the way up the zipper and act like you are god's gift to mankind to cut off the person that's been there for 10 minutes waiting.

If you got over so early that you added 10 minutes of waiting time instead of using all available road space and zipper merging, that's your fault. fricking midwit.
That guy goes on camera looking like that?

And we're supposed to take him seriously?
Some of them would be "hitters" rather than hitters.

I think there were only 2 Louisiana guys I didn't use, but I had to dip into the pitching staff quite a bit.

ETA: I usually like doing a slow pitch softball line up which just the biggest bats with a lot of guys pushed as far up the defensive spectrum as is borderline reasonable. But our normal infield will kind of already look like that and all 5 outfielders we have can reasonably play centerfield. So there wouldn't really be any funny position shifts.
Starting line up if only Louisiana players started:

C - John Pearson
1B - DJ Primeaux
2B - Seth Dardar
SS - Gavin Guidry
3B - Jack Ruckert
LF - William Patrick
CF - Jake Brown
RF - Daniel Harden
DH - Grant Fontenot
Starting line up if only RHH played:

C - Cade Arrambide
1B - Eddie Yamin
2B - Brayden Simpson
3B - Trent Caraway
SS - Steven Milam
LF - John Pearson
CF - Chris Stanfield
RF - William Patrick
DH - Omar Serna
Ole Miss made more than $1MM on baseball last year.

But generally, the total revenue doesn't matter if everyone in the SEC is splitting the same 20.5. Ole Miss and Arkansas have apportioned more of their 20.5 to baseball than LSU and Tennessee have.
FWIW, Tennessee apportioned their rev share similarly to the way LSU did. They even took money that was earmarked for Landon Mack and gave it to Women's Basketball.

And then their coach left.

They have far more control and make far less money.

You think the refs make less than the players at Coppin State?

Last years womens basketball national championship averaged 4.85 million viewers combined across THREE networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU).

Texas A&M and Tennessee averaged 2.92 million on a single channel with basically no marketing in comparison to womens basketball being shoved down our throats 24/7. LSU and Coastal was 2.78.

NCAA womens basketball popularity growth is a complete fallacy outside of Caitlin Clark. College baseball is growing and it is growing fast.

All of this is accurate.

And the college baseball/MLB relationship is starting to creep closer to what the NFL and NBA have with their college counterparts, which will only increase interest and eyeballs.

The 2023 CWS had nearly double digit players in it that made it to the majors within a year of being drafted. One of them is the best pitcher in the National League, a different one had quite possibly the best offensive game in MLB history.

With the anticipated move of further shortening the draft and potentially removing another rung of minor league baseball, college baseball is only going to get more talent moving through it, which will increase the popularity further.
this seems like the context you could have just put in your other thread instead of starting a whole new one.
I'm okay if we don't get Peeping Tom Dottery

I watch a lot of basketball… I can believe it.

It's amazing how sometimes when you get close to the game going over the total everyone just loses all ability to dribble and even make layups and free throws.
quote:

Yup, and honestly 30 million is not alot to go around for 100 kids.

It's not really going to all 105 kids. The back 20, that was previously filled by walk-ons, is essentially just scholarshipped walk-ons now. They aren't getting rev share.

Roundabouts are tough because you have to be able to read and follow rules.

And also be paying attention.
I just went back and took a small sample of box scores from the better teams that High Point played last year, and the results on Simpson were mixed. In two games against Wake Forest he went something like 1 for 8 with 5 Ks. He fared slightly better against the Big Ten and Sunbelt teams they played.

I don't think it means he's going to be bad, I just think it means he doesn't have a lock on a starting job.
Looking at former players in pro ball to see how they're progressing, I saw that the Astros released Travinski at the end of last season. Riley Cooper was also released by the Orioles. I know Cooper was trying to get on with another affiliated team. I haven't seen any updates on Travinski.
