He seemed old 50 years ago. Hell of a life.

College athlete, Rhodes Scholar, Army officer, and helicopter captain for PHI. He lived a life of legend and adventure even without the singing, songwriting, and Hollywood stardom.

RIP icon.

A life that makes an obituary worth reading.

Kristofferson told Men's Journal in 2017, "I had a list of rules I made up one time. It says: Tell the truth, sing with passion, work with laughter, and love with heart. Those are good to start with anyway."

lived through the greatest era. He's probably happy he doesn't have to live in today's shite hole of a society.

"And you still can hear me singin'
To the people who don't listen
To the things that I am sayin'
Prayin' someone's gonna hear

And I guess I'll die explainin' how
The things that they complain about
Are things they could be changin'
Hopin' someone's gonna care

I was born a lonely singer and I'm bound to die the same
But I've gotta feed the hunger in my soul
And if I never have a nickel, I won't ever die ashamed
'Cause I don't believe that no one wants to know"

Great songwriter. One of the best to do it, actually.

Larry Gatlin told the story in his autobiography about sitting in the back of a limo in 1978 (or so) with Kris, Barbra Streisand and some other folks doing a metric shite ton of coke.

Given that Larry did coke at Carter's White House and UT football games, Pro-Ams with Coach Royal, and pretty much everywhere else, that probably shouldn't surprise anyone.

And Kris, he is a movie star, and he's moved off to L.A.
And nobody wants to get drunk and get loud
And all my rowdy friends have settled down.
