These kids have agents now, so expect agent tactics

This is no longer just recruiting with payments. This is free agency with agent negotiations. Players are going to try and squeeze as much out of a school as they can and will use whatever tactics they need to do so.

Disgusting and no longer amateur or college sports.
Send them all to an NFL Developmental League or maybe some of the high school kids think they are already NFL players. Let the greed take over and they can all go to work playing ball for some billionaire.
Let it all implode.

NFL free agency has guidelines. College is just the wild wild West. No rules.

The NFL has long been a multi-million (now billion) dollar entertainment business. However, the players and owners agree to split the revenue the league generates. Revenue that isn't generated without the efforts of the players. How does the NFL generate that revenue? Ticket sales, massive TV/media rights deals, licensing deals etc.
College football has long been a multi-million (now billion) dollar entertainment business. Revenue that isn't generated without the efforts of the players. How do college programs generate revenue? Ticket sales, massive TV/media rights deals, licensing deals etc
In one instance (NFL) it would be unconscionable to think the players shouldn't be able to share in the massive revenue they help generate. Yet, in the other (major college football) many think it is unconscionable the players SHOULD be able to share in the massive revenue they help generate? Explain the juxtaposition.

What revenue has a high school senior generated for their college? None yet. Zero.
Maybe it scales on a team and player cap by year in college and production?

What revenue has a rookie (prior to the start of the season) generated for the franchise who drafted/signed them? None. Yet, the highest drafted rookies are given multi-million dollar salaries.

That would have to be agreed to by the player (player's union really) and colleges. Otherwise, any unilaterally instituted "cap"/wage scale would be quickly struck down in the courts as an anti-trust violation.
The ONLY reason there is rookie wage scale/cap now is because the owners/player's union agreed to one. Otherwise, the free market had 1st round QBs being some of the highest players on the team despite not yet playing a down for the team....not unlike highly rated HS prospects.
The NFL and major college football really aren't that different in terms of a business model. At least in terms of how they generate revenue. It's just that 100+ years of tradition/nostalgia prevents many college football fans from seeing that.

Here's the difference. No unfettered free agency day to day, salary cap, and rookies get paid on a scale. And rookies have actually produced over a college career not some high school kid playing against guys half his size.

Which is why ncaa needs to allow them to sign whenever. No more dates they have to wait and sign by. If you can have an agent or attorney negotiate a nil deal you can sign a National letter of intent to a school. And they need to reinstate the 1 year wait on transfers.
