Gents,

Looking for advice on best place on Louisiana coast to take my young nephew to fish for reds/specks/flounders. I’m not a fisherman and need advice.

Nephew has autism and loves to bass/catfish up in North TX and has his heart set on fishing LA coast.

Due to his autism (he gets easily upset if things go awry), I am a little leery of booking an all day guided trip, so any place that has dock fishing with short guided trips would be preferable.

Thank y’all for any advice and also, suggestions on best time of year to go as well.

This time of year the fish are relatively close to the dock. Fishmaster Guide Service has operations in Point A La Hache and Port Sulphur. He's fishing close and catching limits.

Also on the MS Gulf Coast Sonny Schindler has Shore Thing Charters. Sonny specializes in kids. You can go right outside the marina to the Katrina bridge rubble reefs and the kid will be busy with a mix of reds, white trout, sheepshead, croakers, etc fishing dead shrimp. If he gets tired it's 5 minutes back to the dock. Sonny is a great guy and very patient with kids.

Hackberry is the closest and has all three species.

Depends on where you live and how far you want to travel. West side of the state/Calcasieu Lake great or East side/Grand IsleVenice is great.

This time of year is great for trout/reds/flounder. Plan for late fall or early spring.

Don't know of any that offer dock fishing, but any guide worth a darn will be well experienced fishing w kids. Don't be scared to ask them if they have experience with autistic kids.

This. I've never fished with Sonny but I fish a lot of the same areas as him and am in most of the south MS fishing groups on facebook and have never seen a single negative post about him or his company.

Thank all of y’all for the info. He’ll be coming down to my place in LA and looks like we’ll be headed to Shore Thing based on input. Will reach out to him today.

Talked to Sonny and told him the situation; sounded like a truly good human being and look forward to making a trip with my nephew down there in April. Thank you NC.
