It'll kill deer! Offer $400 and see what happens.

yes, good deal with the sight and QAD rest.

Ask about release? Since it’s not included use that as some justification for $400

I have a Hoyt Torrex, it's a good bow (also the only bow I've used). The bow shop can adjust the draw length and weight pretty easily.
They were going for $600 with all the accessories (including the QAD rest, don't remember what sight it came with) when I bought it in 2021. I'd tell him to keep the arrows and go buy your own unless you know your draw length is 27"

I highly recommend going to a shop and getting fitted. If the shop has Bear you can get a hell of a bow for a good price. There's a lot of ego and insecurity in bowhunting. Don't get sucked into having to buy a prestigious brand especially Matthews. I have owned and shot almost every brand. I am personally really enjoying my Prime. There is no such thing as the "best" bow.

I’m on my third Mathew’s over a 25 year stretch. I didn’t get sucked into. They make quality archery equipment that are enjoyable to shoot.
I do agree that a new archer would be well served to go to a reputable shop and get fitted out for a new bow. Buy once, cry once.
