What are you using it for?

OnX became lazy and Spartan Forge has leaped ahead.

Like other fella said, LIDAR is awesome on it and level of detail helps me when scouting.

I downloaded spartan forge, but when I select lidar it’s just a black screen. Is lidar not available in all areas?

Where are you using at? Just went on and it shows LIDAR in south Louisiana fine.

I've never had any gaps where I hunt in Louisiana or Mississippi. Sometimes it takes a second to load if I didn't download the maps.

Yeah apparently it just took awhile to load up, showing now, pretty cool feature.

Yeah it's great. I've always been restarted when it comes to visualizing what topo lines are trying to tell me so it's a huge help.

Topo lines are generally useless in a small area, gotta have some kind of shading or 3D effect.

Is there a way to draw shapes? I know it’s a bit of a niche but we lease across multiple landowners so I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of tracing the area and sending it to folks over the years in onX.

both are better than the shitbox pile of garbage that is that is Basemap. Don't get basemap whatever you do.

Is the LiDar enough to justify switching from onx to spartan Forge?

If you don't mind learning a new app then yeah. My problem is all my hunting buddies use onx and it's a pain to share pins if we aren't all using the same app. Spartan Forge is cheaper than OnX as well.

Now that I’ve played with it, I think they’re pretty different tools and it’ll depend on what you do mostly. Spartan looks like it is way more geared towards scouting public land and western hunting, lots of map layers and detail. OnX maybe still has the edge on creating and sharing things that you’ve marked up on the map, but I might have just not figured that part out yet.

I can make hi-res contour and hillshade maps from lidar data that you can use on your phone. I use those along with OnX.

If you hunt a property or 2, no.
