alajones2 and I started watching this last night. We’re about five episodes in. It’s pretty slow, but has some twists and turns that keep you guessing. It’s got some cop hating that makes you roll your eyes a little while touting the whole “inner city community togetherness” line. Cuz that’s totally a real thing.
Much like the Seattle tourist bureau probably hated The Killing, the side of Philly the audience sees is a total shithole. Although I think I read that much of it was filmed in Brooklyn. Either way, the setting becomes a character in the show.
We’re definitely into it. I had to force myself to take a break. I don’t usually care to binge an entire series in two days.
The most unbelievable part is Amanda Seyfried as a patrol cop. She’s drop dead gorgeous even with a plain ponytail and a cop uniform. But her acting is fine.
I highly recommend you catch it.

I read the book a few years ago. It was okay.

Started it. Hope it picks up. Her partner is annoying for some reason

We just finished the series. I’m curious if the book goes on mumbo-jumbo diatribes about addiction and addicts in general like the movie does. There was a clear agenda to excuse bad behavior and terrible choices. It reminded me a lot of Truman Capote’s psychological explanations of criminals in In Cold Blood.
The series was good. It was slow and the time jumps kind of make you pay attention, but enjoyed it.
