I’m very familiar with the music and the story so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. But two things kinda blew me away.
1. How physical the actors were. They were throwing themselves around and doing stunts and just overall the amount of physicality in some of the performances was impressive.
There was so much climbing over the sets that I wasn’t really prepared for. And people constantly running around.
I just took away a lot of people in this cast must have to be very athletic to be doing some of these roles
2. I was t quite compare for the pace. It’s extremely quick moving. When Ives heard the soundtrack before, I figured that at time, there was some parts of the story that just aren’t in the soundtrack but not. The pace was lightning quick. There were some additional story beats (the role of the inkeepers was extended a bit
Overall it was just an energizing experience

Les Mis is an incredible stage experience. I've seen it several times (B'Way, London, Houston, New Orleans) and I could see it over and over again.

Saw it for the 2nd time this past Saturday in Birmingham.
It is a very intense show with great songs. The gentleman who portrays Jovert is amazing.

Tall black guy? He was extremely intimidating when acting but afterwards when he was running out with the rest of the cast, he had such positive chemistry.
I also didn’t know the drunkard who’d “breathe them all to death,” was gabroche’s father. This made that very clear

He was the fill-in on the 2nd show. Nick, the primary actor who portrays Jovert, took the 2nd show off due to bad sinuses.
We went to the first show on Saturday at the BJCC

Yeah, I don’t know. I just looked at the program and not sure that the second understudy is the same guy.
Whoever it was, the people I went with agreed he was one of the best people out there. And had a different element to him. A bit less snooty incel, more Djmon Honsou in blood diamond.
Will say though, Javert losing any fight to Valjean at this showing is comical because he has like at least 6 inches and 100 pounds in Valjean haha

Seen it 4 times and it never gets old. It is by far my favorite musical. Very well done. Took my kids to see it when they were tweens and they still talk about how awesome it was 20+ years later. In fact my daughter just took my 12 year old grandson to see it and he loved it too.

Took my wife to see Les Mis at the Majestic theater in San Antonio two months ago. It was incredible! Also saw Phantom there about 8 years ago. Equally incredible!
My wife and son just went to a school orchestra trip to New York last month. Got to see the Great Gatsby. Then they saw Hamilton and hung out with two of the performers the next day. They also ate at Gayle’s Broadway Rose Restaurant where the waiters and waitresses sing show tunes. The owner told them he had a couple of employees out who were touring with several productions, including Les Mis. Pretty cool.
