I wish they would start that again. Play it at the Zeph. They used to bring some great teams in for those...

There were probably problems with the finances. LSU brought the fans but the greenies wanted all the money.

I loved that tournament, even though the Superdome wasn't an ideal venue for baseball.

True. LSU made more for home games. The name was changed later. It started as The Busch Challenge in the Superdome. I believe.

Didn't Deion Sanders play for FSU during one of the showdowns in the 80's?

Probably some PC crap not wanting a beer sponsor for college sporting events.

Video from the 1987 Busch Challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_IMmhbRZ2k (Deion Sanders catch 3:30 into the video)

I loved that, as well. Great baseball 2 blocks from my job. Sigh ...

It was great - I saw Rodney Peete playing 3rd base for USC. Real high quality baseball.

Deion played like in 88-89, but I don't know about the showdown.

Looks like a promotion for Tulane to sell its baseball tickets. You'd think they were the only team from LA in it. Some Greenie-loving fig must have put it together.

Yeah, me too. LSU decided it was not worth it for them; they could ake more money by playing home hames rather than playing in the series. Typical. They wanted more money than anyone else.

Yes because without LSU no one else would have made any money.

Did you ever see the crowds for the Tulane and UNO games? Once the LSU game was ended, the Dome emptied out. Why shouldn't LSU get the bulk?

Not true. The out of state teams brought tons of fans. Tulane typically had a large crowd, which stayed for UNO. AT that time, UNO fielded very good teams and their games were well attended. As usual, LSU opted out for monetary reasons.

Rightfully so, considering the revenue would be miniscule without LSU in town. Regardless of the school, money is the bottomline when it comes to major collegiate athletics.
