Hell yeah! It’s sad to think the good old days are truly gone forever.

there's some story out there about how this occurred

Basically made Claypool a sanctuary by using guns and cannons on every bit of water around

Probably not forever in planet earth time.
Eventually humans will succumb to a natural disaster or disease. Then mallards and everything else that survives will have free reign again.

The existence of modern humans wont take up a single full page in the history book of earth.

True. But feral cats and pigs will rule this rock once we’re gone. Birds are on the same borrowed time that we occupy.

We used to have almost that many ducks at our lease in Terrebonne Parish in the. 60’s and 70’s. We hunted two blinds, 3 on opening day on 2 1/2 square miles of prime freshwater marsh. We’d stop at 30- 60 ducks per blind. All season. 3 days a week.
