The extraordinary criminal case against deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is headed before a 92-year-old judge with a stubborn streak and an often unorthodox approach to running his courtroom.
U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, a Clinton appointee based in Manhattan, is overseeing Maduro’s arraignment Monday and is likely to preside over any trial of the ousted president.
Hellerstein has ruled against President Donald Trump or his administration in other high-profile cases, including the charges involving alleged hush money payments to pornstar Stormy Daniels. Hellerstein twice rejected Trump’s bids to move the case to federal court.
Just two months ago, an appeals court overturned one of those rulings.
Hellerstein also issued a sweeping order last May blocking the Trump administration from deporting immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act with little, if any, due process. The ruling essentially halted such deportations in the Southern District of New York, where the judge sits.

Nothing now that the trial has moved into German territory.

Should have taken him to Miami. NY is a mistake.

You'd think by now this administration would've figured that out. Look how they've personally hammered Trump on every trial he's had in NY.
The Judge will either say he was removed illegally or a NY Jury will find him not guilty just to get at Trump.

Based on the expertise of the people who will be prosecuting the case, NY is the place to be.
The US government does not lose cases like this.
Not to mention it will be at least partially closed door where all intel that we don't want to reveal sources and methods about will be presented. From this alone, the jury selection will filter out a whole lot of communist trash.

This was an ongoing case this judge had already been randomly awarded.

Nicolás Maduro was first added as a defendant in a superseding indictment unsealed on March 26, 2020, by the U.S. Department of Justice in the Southern District of New York. This 2020 indictment charged him (along with 14 other current and former Venezuelan officials) with narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and related offenses, alleging his leadership role in the “Cartel de los Soles” and partnerships with groups like the FARC to traffic cocaine into the U.S.

92 years old? There should be a mandatory retirement age.
Poor guy probably has to go pee every 45 minutes.

Their sole identity of so many federal judges is their job. They love the reverence they receive.
If they didn’t love it, they wouldn’t do it.

They constantly step on their own dicks with little things like this.

I am curious why Bondi and the DOJ would choose to prosecute this case in the SDNY?
Why not Florida?
Why not Florida?
