Are there downsides to buying a ticket on one of these or other airlines for flights operated by American or another US carriers?

If you have AA status then not all of them will honor the same benefits that you’d get on an actual American flight.
However FinnAir and Iberia are both one world members and do for the most part.
Lingus for instance does not

The thing to keep in mind is I believe, could be wrong, is that your OneWorld status is what would be honored here as opposed to your AA and that potentially comes with different benefits

If you have AA status (I'm guessing you do,) just make sure you book with the other airlines using your AA number, not whatever Iberia's loyalty program is. I've booked flights on Turkish and Lufthansa in their websites with no issue using my UA member number.
