We live in a world that lives in 140 words and 15-30 sec clips, so the side that thinks there are no checks and balances gets up in arms and uses the news cycle to fortify their opinion as opposed to having a nuanced approach and looking at the information objectively. This cycle continues for years and we have an entire side that thinks they are living through an authoritarian era and anyone who opposes them is a literal Nazi.

TLDR because not able to absorb more than 140 characters...the checks and balances are still very much in tact.
