Why do people shut the bathroom door after using it?

This makes me think its occupied. And I dont want to knock.
If you blow it up just leave it slightly ajar. That will still hold the stank in.
Door wide open = come on in
Door closed = occupied
Door slightly ajar = enter at your own peril
