Looks like they’re going to be deviating from certain elements of previous RE games
1. Leon will be able to use weapons left by zombies after they’re killed
2. The action oriented gameplay of Leon seems to be much more over-the-top compared to the RE2 remake and RE4 remake. Gives off Splatterhouse vibes
3. The zombies have unique elements to them that make them different from zombies in previous RE games. They can still talk to a certain degree and they also have the ability to wield weapons. The zombie design seems to have taken some inspiration from Sega’s The House of the Dead games.
All in all, it looks like a decent game

Kind of looks like an amalgamation of RE2:R and RE7, which, of course, would be wicked-frickin-awesome.

My only gripe is that they went super over-the-top with Leon’s finishing moves. Very RE6-esque. And the first person aim lock looks awful. They should have kept it like RE7 where the crosshair is in the middle and the gun is towards the side of the screen.

I'm glad they finally cleared up what watch Leon was wearing.

Game sells me more and more everytime I see it.
I do have serious doubts about how well they’re going to give all the necessary story exposition and needed context since this game is essentially a sequel to Outbreak 2 a game almost no one has played and I’m worried about other people struggling understanding it

I think that most people are probably buying it mainly for the gameplay and action compared to following the story.
Are we going to pretend that people have always loved Resident Evil because it’s some kind of cinematic achievement in storytelling? Of course not. The story has always been very difficult to follow because there so many plot holes, too many characters, and so many games. It’s extremely fun to play though and that’s why people have always revered it.
The Evil Within series has very similar elements to Resident Evil in terms of gameplay but it also has an infinitely better story line. I’d definitely suggest playing that if you want something that has a creepier atmosphere, more story driven, and puts heavy emphasis on psychological horror. Keep in mind that franchise was also created by the same director who made the later RE games.

I'm sure they can explain Alyssa's prior role as a playable character/investigative journalist with five minutes of expository dialogue. I never played the outbreak games and I don't feel particularly lost.
Unless you are going in blind of any prior plot, you should be aware of the background of the characters and the significance of the setting.
Alyssa probably knows things she shouldn't. Makes her a target. Umbrella bad. Raccoon City go boom.
Given that we are revisiting the ruins of Raccoon City, I wouldn't be surprised if they tie up any loose ends with the raccoon city incident and throw out a few new revelations about what happened there. This could end up being their way of ushering out the current Resident Evil characters/saga and starting up with some new plot threads or turning it into an anthology series that has less plot continuity moving forward. Saw some rumors that suggested as much.
