To the people who were upset about Scott Woodward’s termination

What was it about that organizational update that upset you so badly? As I recall there were hundreds of threads on here acting like the sky was falling. Are you really big women's sports fans or something? He disliked Kiffin personally and did not want Kiffin here. He cared more about himself and personal differences than LSU winning. Moreover, those same individuals were crying when the governor intervened and removed him. If anything you all should be thanking the governor for stepping in and righting the ship because if Woodward were allowed to make the football hire; we would’ve ended up with James Franklin or some other washed up boomer with a massive contract buyout. We could have had 4 years of Kiffin by now if not for him; and a respectable MBB team as well. Sometimes it just takes an alpha to step in and make a business decision. Thank god for Landry; any other milquetoast governor we’ve had would have done nothing and we’d be stuck with mediocre football for the foreseeable future.

this main issue at the time was who will be hiring the new football coach, they made vern the AD then they didn’t then they did again. it also felt more like a personal issue with landry than it did a professional one, which rubbed people the wrong way as well

My concern was only that Woodward was probably the best fundraiser we had had in that office. He had connections and could ply money out of them. Elevating Verge was a good move, though, because he has moved in those same circles for years now, and he is probably on par with Woodward.
There is a lot more to being an AD than hiring coaches; most of it is not very visible, though. And hiring coaches is what will get you fired quicker than anything except maybe embezzling funds or the Edwin Edwards doomsday scenario of getting caught in bed with a dead girl or live boy.
Most folks have moved on now; you probably should, too.

Is that why Oregon has so much money? A&M? You need to think more rationally. This is something Woodward excelled at. Not just here. I know you hate Woodward, but it can still be true that he has always been an exceptional fundraiser; he has tons of contacts with deep pockets, and he is very good with people who donate, on a personal level.
He was generally well-liked by the high-dollar boosters. Fortunately, so is Verge, probably even more so.
Plus, how many championships did LSU win during his tenure? I think 6, 4 by folks he hired, though one was an elevation of a coach that was on staff before he got here.
It's OK to think Woody needed to go because he made some hiring mistakes that should have cost him his job, and still acknowledge what he did well in other areas.

i mean okay that’s fine though given the calendar there was reason to wonder if coaches were going to sign up for a job not knowing who their boss would be. you did kind of box yourself in so you had to hire Berge which, right now looks great. At the time it was fair to wonder if not having a true AD search was going to hurt you.
