Currently have a 16 Pro with 128gb of storage. I keep getting a low storage message for the past month now. When I view the storage data it shows that 52.4gb is being used for “system data”(which seems like a lot), 12gb for “iOS”, 27gb for photos, and the rest for other.

Has anyone else had this issue? I’ve already deleted many photos, videos, apps, message, etc. but still can’t keep enough storage. It’s frustrating at this point.

Are you removing the photos from iCloud too? Otherwise they're just being re-synched to your phone.

I'm at 14GB of System Data on an iPhone 13.

When is the last time you restarted the phone?

I'm at 2.5 GB of System Data on my iphone.

Backup to iCloud and do a factory reset. If that doesn’t fix it, come back.

That system data is way too high. Something is caching and not getting cleared. Do you listen to podcasts a lot?

Try connecting to your computer and opening finder/itunes and let it perform a sync.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to find the problem app and delete it and reinstall. Otherwise do the nuclear option that Josh said.

ETA: Googling also gave this option:
quote:

Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Turn off "Set Automatically."

Set the date 1 year into the future.

Wait 60 seconds.

Set the date back to Automatic.

This tricks the OS maintenance scripts into thinking cache files have expired, forcing an immediate cleanup.

It’s often due to the way iOS caches data. Part of the flawed system they have in order to try and get people to buy higher storage phones / pay for iCloud.

I haven’t tested, but I’ve read that if you back the phone up to iTunes the old school way (plugged into a computer) and reset the phone as new, that helps reduce the space. Over time it will creep back up but that should help hold it down for a bit.

I have it connected to my mac laptop. I had to manually offload all my high storage use apps to free up "system data". In the process of updating the iOS to the current system. After the updated i may have to do the restore.

The date change was the fix for clearing the "System Data", thanks!
