First time going to parade with kids. What time should I get there in order to find parking and any suggestions where to park?
Thanks

There are plenty of places to stand for Orion. The PITA is that Krewe Mystique de la Capitale rolls at 2pm. The streets open between parades, but it's hit or miss as to where to grab a spot to park.
For suggestions where to park, it depends on where you want to watch the parade. If just trying to get in and get out, then somewhere over by North Street or University or Spanishtown and catch it on Main. It makes it an easy shot to the interstate to leave.

Wait, I always thought BR just had Southdowns and Spanish Town and that was about it. When did we get all of these auxiliary parades?

As a Baton Rouge cop, I always recommend friends and family park at the first turn on River Road and State Capitol Drive.
You’ll catch the parade shortly after it starts. Toward the end of the route, delays can happen due to breakdowns, slow-moving floats, or other issues.
There’s free parking on River Road (west side) and in lots near the Capitol Annex, Pentagon Barracks, and Claiborne Building.
When it’s over, head north on River Road to Chippewa and jump on I-110—you’ll usually clear out with very little traffic.
This is especially ideal for folks coming from Central, Zachary, or North Baton Rouge.
Stay safe. We look forward to seeing you out there.
