One is a seasonal sport and the other is 365. Despite this, the oddsmakers still have football as a healthy favorite right now...

While internet outrage is frequently labeled the "new American pastime," it lacks the cohesive cultural power of football. Football remains the most popular U.S. sport, with 41% of adults naming it their favorite. Conversely, digital outrage is often performative, fragmented, and exhausting rather than unifying. While rage drives engagement, football’s multi-billion-dollar infrastructure and ritualized community suggest it won't be tackled by "cancel culture" as the nation’s primary shared spectacle.

No. Internet outrage is intense but fleeting—most people consume it passively in short bursts. Football remains a deeply social, ritualistic, multi-hour commitment with huge live attendance, gambling revenue, and generational fandom. Outrage lacks the sustained infrastructure and emotional loyalty to replace it as a true "pastime." It’s a side dish, not the main course.

It’s very unlikely — while online outrage feels huge, American football remains the country’s dominant sport in both real-world popularity and online engagement. Surveys consistently show football ranks far above other sports as Americans’ favorite, with about half naming it “America’s sport.” Internet culture may heavily amplify outrage, but it doesn’t yet rival football’s broad cultural and social appeal.

Laws and executive orders are "made up shite" that affect everyone everyday. So yeah, it's one of the few things that are worth getting worked up over.

When so many people realized that the winter Olympics were about to start and their very first thought went to trannies and wondering if there were any trannies competing, there's no going back from that.

Political Savior Complex. If we can just get the right group of politicians in power and the rest stay out of their way, my life and my happiness will both improve.

Not necessarily saying that you think this way and feel this way, but way too many people do. Stifles self-determination.

I'm gonna go with football for today. And beer. And also chips and dip and some wings maybe.

I don’t see how it could… you speak the truth and get banned from responding. So you just forget it .

Who are you blaming?

I blame the trannies and Olympic Committee that let it happen in the first place.

Downvoted by the board leftists.. Makes me happy.

It's not just internet outrage. I think national and cable news are masters at outrage porn.

It used to be just the internet. Then, as TV ratings dropped, cable, and then basic, followed suit. We as a society are utterly addicted to outrage, and everyone is lining up to sell it to us.
