Maryland high school dropout rate hits 13-year high, as funding surges

Maryland high school students are dropping out at rates not seen in more than a decade.
Despite that statistic, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, during his State of the State address this month, said Maryland schools are becoming the nation’s best.
“Maryland is delivering on our promise to have the best public schools in the entire country,” stated Moore during the State of the State. “This year, we are proposing a historic $10 billion for our public schools – these are targeted investments that will deliver real results in our communities.”
Maryland taxpayers have certainly been increasing their “investments” in public education. Over the past three years, according to the Maryland State Department of Education, combined state and local PreK-12 public education funding has increased by about 16% from $12.3 billion in 2023 to $14.3 billion in 2025.
In a statement to FOX45 News, City Schools attributed the increased dropout rate to “The Covid-19 pandemic”. BCPS attributed the increase to Hispanic and multilingual learners being “afraid to come to school” due to recent federal immigration enforcement. This is the crap they keep spewing to hide the money laundering.

On one hand, it's better they drop out than disrupt the other students.

Give me all that money. Me using it to wipe my arse and flush it down the toilet would be a more beneficial and productive use than what Maryland is doing with it.

Suburban Maryland has some great schools...
Baltimore is an atrocity... I'd worry less about 20% dropouts, more about the 77% who can't read at even a middle school level.
