Just finished the game and have a lot of thoughts about it overall. I won’t share spoilers though because I know people are still playing it.

Did anyone else feel like the second half of the game with Leon in Raccoon City was a massive letdown? The first half of the game in the hospital started out so strong and felt like a genuine horror experience. The claustrophobia, the unique zombie design and mannerisms, the constant paranoia of getting caught by the chef zombie, etc.

Then came the second half in Raccoon City: one of the blandest, most generic segments of gameplay to have ever come from a Capcom game in years. It literally felt like a half-assed ripoff of TLOU. No sense of horror at all and the zombies were lazily designed with no flavor. Just awful and horrifically bad level design.

Capcom seriously disappointed me with this one. It’s absolutely insane that this game got the amount of hype it did. It’s an okay game but nowhere near being a masterpiece.

There’s a thray for this.

I thought it was the best mainline game since 4.

Not as good as RE4Make but on the same level and quality as RE2make. If you’re interested in more of my thoughts check the official thread

Also the game is pretty easy on its standard difficulty. Try insanity mode and see if you still think the Leon dominated second half is just mindless action schlock. I had to restart my run before I initiated the motorcycle sequence because I realized I had soft locked myself out of any possibility of completing the game due to how much heals I was forced to sustain during the small open world east raccoon city segment.

I enjoyed Leon's Racoon City part of the game and I thought that it was a good blend between RE4 action with RE2 horror elements built in. It was much more atmospheric than RE4 and I felt more tension.

That said, to get my Leon action fix, this will not replace RE4 remake for me. That game is special.

ETA: without spoilers, There was a particular kind of zombie in east Racoon City that I don't recall seeing in an RE game before and it was really well done

Since the original thread exists, we could turn this into a spoiler thread.

It’s not a particularly long game. I’ve beaten my first playthrough.

I’ve got some thoughts, both good and bad.

Turn this into the spoiler thread. I think this game is a 9/10 but the story imo is likely the weakest part but it’s just certain aspects, and I also have questions about things I maybe misunderstood.

I’m on my second run on insanity I had to restart though like I said I soft locked myself lol so this would be my 3rd go

Right-wing streamers that I follow are glazing the shite outta this game

Not a RE fan, but I assume that means the girls are hot, and commies are the villain. . .or some shite?

That was my biggest gripe with the gameplay. It was WAY too easy with Leon’s gameplay.

They really should have kept the hospital segment as a solo gameplay with Grace. As soon as Leon’s character came in, it was comical how easy it was to clear out both the East and West wing. I cleared out both of the hospital wings without taking a single hit.

I think that this is intentional. The early Leon sequences in the game are intended to highlight how skilled he is compared to Grace. When you play as him for real later the game is much harder.

The motorcycle part with Leon in Raccoon City...ugh. That was straight out of RE5&6.
Also some interesting retcon choices.

Yeah it's awfully hard for me to believe that Spencer felt remorse near the end of his life and created a cure considering the last we saw him in the RE5 DLC he was screaming about being a god.

They retconned the shite out of the Raccoon City segment. The music and gameplay felt like they were making a late 2000s-early 2010s horror game vibe

Apparently the team behind the RE4R had nothing to do with this and is currently making the CV remake?

It seemed odd to introduce a Wesker clone who was a high level member of the Connections only to barely scratch the surface of his character and then unceremoniously kill him off.

I assume that the Umbrella Commander was Hunk?

And I really don't buy Spencer's face turn. Seems like a bizarre retcon. He was talking about being 'a god' up until Wesker murdered him in 5. I guess maybe he was retconned into trying to posture in front of Wesker in order to appear strong? stupid, but whatever.

I don't really care much for the plot, but the gameplay was great. I really enjoyed the care center as an environment. The RPD section and the boss fight that immediately followed it were great.

The ARK was okay, but I was disappointed by the big 'elpis' reveal and the boss at the end felt kinda meh. Gideon and Zeno's plan seemed fricking retarded once all the cards were dealt.

Yeah that Umbrella dude in the gas mask has the same VA as Hunk.

I just got through a sub 4 hour speedrun without using heals or gathering any blood for crafting. That was rough. Props to my infinity knife. The real MVP.

Yeah apparently. The RE4R was great, but it’s not an original game. It’s still largely a copy and paste of the first one.

RE7 was the last mainline game that was worth paying $70 for. It has yet to be topped in terms of horror, atmosphere, and tension. I highly doubt we’ll ever see a game like that from Capcom ever again.

I think this game is better than RE7 idk if that’s a hot take. IMO the Grace segments are slightly better than RE7 but at the very least on equal terms and don’t overstay their welcome and flame out like the final 1/3 of 7 did.

I really like how it’s intermixed with Leon’s story and gameplay that’s essentially a mix of his gameplay from RE4make and RE6.

I also switched grace to third person on my subsequent runs of the game on insanity mode. It’s nice to have the atmospheric vibes of first person for her on your initial run where the gameplay is extremely easier comparatively, but when they ratchet it up as much as they do on insanity the third person advantage is much needed.

I think the game needs a difficulty mode that’s in between standard and insanity because many people are going to find insanity too much for them.

I played through my under 4 hour run in third person.

I was getting agitated with the amount of times Grace would eat shite while running from a threat. Early on, she fell flat on her face running to the fuse switch to open the gate while Marie was in pursuit. What a spaz.

Yeah it’s kind of annoying. I assume it’s meant to carry over those first person vibes I referenced, and as the game goes on and she gets more confident in herself which is reflected via the story her stumbling and bumbling in 3rd person gradually becomes less and less until it’s totally gone, but as I said it’s still annoying

I switched to 3rd person for a reason

Interestingly this game has tied Clair Obscur currently as the highest rated user score game in meta critic history and hitting 334,224 concurrents just on steam during its launch weekend which breaks the franchise record. The video game industry is full of shite when they say people don’t want or play single player games. They just want good ones

Evidently the puzzle has been solved.

I was skimming so sorry if it’s an elaborate hoax.
