Thank for the heads up. I was very close to renting The Secret Agent yesterday. Heard great things about it.

Just finished up It Was Just an Accident. Wouldn’t be surprised if this won best international film with everything going on with Iran because it’s a heavily political Iranian film. It was a decent thriller with a heavy shot at the atrocities committed by the Iranian government against its people which is why it’s so hyped. Solid ending and I’d say worth a watch. Also cool it was filmed illegally without their governments consent.

The Secret Agent is long as hell. Trying to decide whether to start it now or wait till the weekend

It felt even longer. It’s an unconventional structure and I can appreciate the thought behind it, but it just didn’t do it for me. I’m 0/2 in the nominated foreign films after this and Sentimental Value. No idea how anybody watched No Other Choice and thought those were better.

Will check out It Was Just an Accident this week.

I have 20 min left I ran out of time and had to leave for work.

It’s the absolute definition of a long slow burn political thriller, by my god is it beautifully shot. The 1970s Brazilian back drop is just so good. From the sleek, shiny cars of the 70s, to the sweaty, loose fitting outfits of the climate, and the beautiful scenery when the protagonist looks out the window of the film room. Loved all the scenes at the cinema with The Omen playing in the background, so cool. Beautifully directed.

I do agree it is slow and won’t be for everyone but I loved it and was engaged the whole time. Great acting as well.

Still need to catch Sentimental Value and No Other Choice.

Did you watch Sirat? I think I’m going to check it out Friday at a local theater. The director and writer will be doing a Q&A after.

I have not. I believe there’s a Tunisian film as well on there that I didn’t know was on there until today. I’ve seen all the best picture noms except Sentimental Value. I also still need to finish Blue Moon but it’s just a gay Ethan Hawke rambling in a bar for an hour and 40 min idk if I’ll even finish it

I didn’t mind this one. Mostly because it seemed he hated Oklahoma! as much as I do.

I watched all the Best Pictures and Acting nominees. Sirat, It Was Just an Accident, and maybe Arco are the ones I’m trying to watch before the ceremony.
