Body camera video shows a New Orleans police officer firing two shots at a dog who police said "charged" him outside a home earlier this month.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. March 5 in the 8900 block of Morrison Road.

Police said Officer Vincent Lewis was dispatched to the residence to check on a runaway teenager believed to be staying there with a relative.

As Lewis backs away into the street, he fires two shots in the dog’s direction — and toward an area where the woman and a small child were standing.

I have been around people that are terrified of dogs. Doesn’t matter size, if the dog charges them, they while freak out and run.

With that being said, it should absolutely go into hiring information that as an officer, you will encounter dogs. If you are terrified of dogs, it’s understandable but if you can’t control your emotions to the point that you shoot at or shoot a dog that is obviously not a threat, you will most likely lose your job

Can’t blame a cop for being on edge in New Orleans East after dark.

Big difference in a cop being scared of a pitbull versus a chihuahua. If dude is that scared of a small dog that he’s firing shots Willy nilly, he doesn’t need to be a cop.

Something about becoming a cop compels them to kill family pets.
