We are planning a day trip there soon. Even though it's only threeish hours from the house I haven't been yet. We aren't super hikers or anything, but we aren't scared of a few miles jaunt. Just looking for some suggestions or can't miss spots.

I’ve done eagle rock loop there a few times. There’s a good water fall that’s about a quarter mile hike from parking lot and the winding stairs. Lots of creek crossing on the loop so probably drive around to the different trail heads

Park at main campground and hike to Winding Staircase. It's a couple of miles each way, but it is a bad arse place to spend the day.

May will probably be seriously thick with ticks, though it will also be electric green and water will be gorgeous. If you wait until late June, you’ll probably have much better tick conditions.
