In your opinion? Looking at a blade or blend set?

mizunos have a pretty good reputation for their irons. miura are great too but they are very expensive.

I really thought you were asking David or Kenny before I opened the thread.

Pops just bought some Cleveland HiBore XLi's on ebay for around $500 and still in the plastic. Look pretty badass.

Alright absolutely no taylormade, cobra, or cleveland hibore...titleist ap2 are the best forged iron on the market...or damn near any mizuno blade...you trying to work the ball more (go with the blade) work it less(go with a cavity back - the new callaway x22 tours are sweet)
Posted on 2/27/09 at 10:25 pm to badams22
looked at the Titleist ZB, I feel you could work a ball better with those than the AP2s, correct?

Either of those titleist sets are bad arse. Can't go wrong with either or.

I play the Cobra Pro CB irons. It's a forged iron. Golf Digest rated them the top pro-style irons on the market.
The new Titleist irons are NOT superior to the Cobroa Pro CB irons. The older Titleist forged irons were the best forged irons out there but the new ones are not as good.
What's your handicap? I'm a 7 handicap and I'm at the outer edge of who should be playing forged blades. If you're highrer than a 10 handicap you should be thinking cavity back irons and some hybrids.
In that category there are several makers that are good, especailly Callaway, Adams, and Cobra.

WHAAATT???
the top pro style irons on the market huh? but still not pro irons
youre not talking my man into cobra irons...seriously? show me a man that plays cobra irons and ill show you someone who should be playing well anything else...
ofcourse the new ap2's arent as superior as the ultra forgiving cobra pro cb's to someone thats a 7 HANDICAP...and by the way anyone worse than scratch is off the edge of who should be playing blades

quote:I'm not sure I understand your sentence. Are you asking if there are pros who play the Cobra forged Pro CB's? If so, the answer is yes. Several, in fact. Camilo Villegas is one. Geoff Ogilvy another. Also Jason Gore. And yes, Golf Digest rated them as the best pro club on the market in 2008, comfortably ahead of the new Titleist forged clubs.

quote:The Pro CB's are not ultra forgiving. You must have them confused with some of the other Cobra line, like the S9's. The Pro CB's are forged blades with a touch of cavity back. There's also a Pro MB.

quote:I'm trying to get there. I was playing Callaway X- 20 Tour irons last year. It was like hitting a shovel. No feel at all. I greatly prefer the Cobra Pro Cb's even though they are not as forgiving.

Ogilvy is playing super hot right now with them.
Poulter plays them too.
But back on track.
Almost all manufacturers now are making great clubs. Just go find some you think look good and feel good.

Villegas also plays with Cobra irons... Again golf digest voted the pro cb irons number 1.... Titleist makes cobra... They are damn good irons..

It really all boils down to whatever feels right to you. I remember an interview Aaron Baddely did when he first came on tour. They asked him how long it took him to decide to sign an endorsement deal with MacGreggor. He replied "About 5 minutes in the office."
