Certainly Lane Kiffin has said some wird things to the media.

Butis it any surprise that Tennessee has come up aces in recruiting.

Bu why should anyone think his ability to convin ce recruits to go there is anything illegal.

He already convinced a murderer's row of great recruiters there, they're obviously making a big impact.

Is that surprising?

Not to an impartial observer. The past history of this entire staff is 1) excellent recruiting and 2) mediocre coaching. If Monte's success in the NFL transfers to college FB, Tennessee will undoubtedly rise again and vie for SEC championships. Although they may turn out to be this years Georgia, pre-season darling, regular season also-ran. The SEC is getting very interesting.

I just can't understand the appeal with this guy. He seems about as unprofessional in his behavior as one can be, yet he lures great staff and he's stealing kids too.

I bet he has Suge Knight hang people over balconies when they come to visit. That's the only explanation for all these hires and commits.

It is bewildering. Apparently he is MUCH better one-on-one than he comes off in the media. They have shown to be a recruiting machine. Maybe they are promissing immediate playing time. Thi swill not work, as they fill the roster with there own men.

Lane is a douchebag cocky prick that has had everything given to him because of his father. His comments to fans and the media make it pretty clear that he isn't very bright.

He has pulled a nice class in a short time...gotta give him credit for that.

I think the Kiffin Cup has a better ring to it than the Fulmer Cup anyway.

However, if those jackasses of a coaching staff can beat Bama, then I'll try real hard to see the bright side of things.

If they can't, F Kiffin and his meathead staff.

I think Kiffen an these recruits maturity levels are the same, that is the appeal. But they will suffer the same when the sky starts falling and that big mean ole SEC comes collecting its booty. On and off the field.

LAnce Thompson was probably our worst on the field coach. That staff doen't look like it will have good chemistry, but we'll see.

Meh...Kiffin's doing very well. But his class won't make anyone from LSU, Bama or UF jealous, that's for fricking sure.

Kiffin has made a splash. Yea everybody in the SEC hates the guy. That is fine. All I care about is winning football games. The first thing that helps you win football games is getting the best players to come and play for you. I think he will have big recruiting classes year in year out. Everyone on the staff can recruit.

Can they coach? I know Monte Kiffin is as well thought of a DC as you could hire. Eddie Gran as proven he can coach RB's just look at what Auburn RB's have done. Orgeron is a great DL coach again look at the players he has coached. Cheany seems to be at least pretty good with QB's if you look at his past at Purdue. Browning has been a proven OL coach at Minn. I am not sure about the others as far as on the field coaching goes we will find out soon enough.

But Kiffin's view of the game is pretty basic. That is be physical at all positions. Run the football and play great D. If he gets the players IMO I think he will win games. Look at how Bama plays now. They are physical and they run the football plus play great defense. It works.

Well, for one thing, they have a good tradition and lots of support. Their talent is down. Thus, recruits see the depth chart as a positive.

I'd think it was EASIER to recruit to a school that has the tradition, facilities, and support BUT has lesser talent than it is to one with those things and lots of talent.

That's why Bama and LSU have to really work extra hard to combat the perceived depth chart issues. I'm not saying I'd rather trade with UT. Just that it will become a little tougher sell once the cupboard gets filled with front line talent.

Kiffin has made a splash, but all that will matter is whether or not he can win football games. If he succeeds, he will be heralded as one of those Saban/Meyer assholes. If he fails, he will be considered Bill Callahan redux.

I agree with that. The thing that is different about Kiffin is how he looks at the game. He looks at it alot like Saban (Even though I hate the guy). Look at how USC plays. They play physical, run the ball, play action, then play great defense. Old school. It works.

It will take time. But when he gets the players to buy into what he wants and gets a few more kids on campus. I think he will win games. That is if he doesn't try to many 73 yard field goals.

First off, Ogre is not a 'great' Dline coach at all, or really any kind of coach; he's only known for his recruiting. Secondly, that's the other big issue - Ogre is known for his recruiting. He was tied to USC when they scored Bush et al, he supposedly helped put USC on Joe McKnight while recruiting talent at Ole Miss and now, post his molestation of the Saint's Dline, he's pulling in recruits at Tenn? As I said when LSU was looking at adding him to our staff, I wouldn't want him & I believe he pulls some underhanded stuff to get the recruits he gets. Ogre is the #1 reason I believe the NCAA should investigate Tenn for recruiting violations.

You'd think an alum would care about other aspects of their school as well. Guess not.

In my opinion, Lane Kiffin is on the same maturity level as the kids he recruits. Thus, they "identify" with him as a "cool guy", because he acts like they do........stupid.

This will ultimately be reflected in a complete lack of leadership and maturity on the team, a complete lack of controly by Kiffin over his team-o'superathletethugs, and hopefully Tennessee will just implode.

At least that is what I hope happens.

+1

The majority of 17 and 18-year olds don't care about professionalism.

Let's see, how many games has Kiffin won in the SEC?
How many did Ogeron win in the SEC?
How hard is it to look like a great coach at USC in the PAC 10 for God's sake.
Saban, Meyer, Spurrier may be jerks, but they have won in conference. They are OUR jerks so to speak. Until Kiffin puts his money (not UT's) where his sizable mouth is, it don't mean shite to a tree.
Apparently, this is what you can do and get away with in the PAC 10.
