Cue "Flaming"...

Butler has played some tough teams this year, and faired very well. They are well coached, and not afraid of the big name schools. I'm just saying that this is a good basketball team.

Last night kind of confirmed my thoughts when I watched South Carolina lose to Stephon Curry.

I will say this though...South Carolina is plays very undisciplined basketball, so they left players wide open. At least I feel that LSU is finally playing disciplined defense, and I don't think Butler will get the open looks. At the same time, we foul alot, and Butler shoots very well from the stripe.

I think if we just hit our open shots, we win, but if we struggle, like we have the last few games, from the outside, it doesn't look promising.

Curry has done that to much better teams. Last March is a good example of that...
Besides, SC isn't comparable to LSU

No, I'm certainly not taking Butler for granted. IF LSU shoots less than 40% from the field, they are likely one and done in the tournament. If you follow college basketball closely, then you know Butler should not be taken lightly. LSU was in a similar situation against UAB several years ago and the Blazers wiped the court with LSU. Now, LSU does have a veteran team this year with some final four experience and I'm hoping that will make a difference tomorrow.

Noone is taking them for granted. They did beat Xavier at Xavier, a team we lost to in BR.

Most people on this site have yet to acknowledge the game against Butler yet ... too busy talking about the UNC game that may never happen.

Butler is more than capable of beating LSU, and it really wouldn't be an upset.

I am so tired of this phrase that it put me to sleep...

The rant better stop talking about LSU FOOTBALL season... We should be concentrating on Spring practice and not how we do next season! Geese!

butler beat xavier and ohio state, thats it. they are young and inexperienced. we make our shots, we win the game. simple as that. also the thing thats killed us all season is big men and butler doesnt have anyone over 6'8". if we play like we did the last week of the season, we lose. BUT we play our game, i think we'll be ok.

The original poster asked if he was the only one being realistic about the Butler game. Based on the number of posts about playing UNC, one can only imply that most fans are assuming LSU will beat Butler. It really has nothing to do with opinions impacting the outcome of the game.

Butler only beat Xavier and lost at Ohio State by 3, don't give them too much credit! They've been young and inexperienced all season, and this is really both teams first tournament game. Temple did play for your final four team which will undoubtedly help, but both Veasley and Howard have a couple tournament games under their belt as well. Butler doesn't have a "big man" to speak of, but they did fair well enough against Ohio State, Xavier and UIC, who all have 7 footers. They aren't as athletic as Johnson, so there are differences to be sure, but they are used to being the smaller team. You hit the nail on the head and I too think it all just boils down to who's hitting their outside shots tomorrow and which team can execute down the stretch. Good luck tomorrow! (and throughout the tournament if you happen to win)

I didn't like the matchup when it was announced and I don't like it now. Butler lives to beat teams like LSU in the tourney.

They play patient basketball, limiting possessions, and run a deliberate, extra-pass offense. This will minimize the fact that they aren't as athletic as LSU. You don't have to be very athletic if you run 30 screens in one possession and get a layup or wide-open 3.

LSU has to shoot the ball extremely well and get every damned rebound to win. Bottom-line.

I see a typical tight game for us until the 9 minute mark of the second half. Then our D, senior leadership, and some easy transition buckets turn in a +10 victory. MT and Taz will lead the way.

And who has LSU beat that makes their resume so impressive? Butler is the type of team that has traditionally given LSU fits in the tournament (and I'm not just talking about Brady's teams). I think LSU will win, but it's certainly not going to be easy. Assuming LSU pulls off the win, then it will be time to talk UNC. And believe me, living in Tarhole country, I would like nothing better than to see my Tigers beat UNC!

i wasnt refering to the fact that we have these impressive big men, chris johnson is a bean pole and dudes that are wider than him eat him up. his length is our biggest asset inside.

That's my point, we haven't shot the ball well for the last 5 or 6 games. Our defense is good, but eventually the pick and rolls pay off. I think the best way for us to limit the number of passes Butler can make is to press the dribbler, using up the shot clock so they don't have time to pick and roll us to death.

My bad, I did read that this morning, either way, 60% of our starting fives haven't played in a tournament game to date.

and I was just saying that typically Howard will make up for his lack of height with positioning and footwork, though it could be tougher if Johnson is able to beat him to spots and can anticipate where he's going. We won't know how it goes until tomorrow.
