LSU's senior leadership jumped all over us and we finally responded, but too little too late

Very proud of this team

I agree! This year has been a real ride at 26-6. Our young Dawgs were never in danger of being blown out the entire game.

Yeah, what a bunch of jerks... The better team won today. And if today was how Thornton usually plays, my goodness, how did you guys ever lose? I'm not saying all of his shots were highly contested, but some of those fadeaways and tough shots in the lane he hit were amazing. He shot 67% from the field, just an unbeleivable player. As for Howard, I'm not sure if we said it on this board, but for the LSU fans on our board we told them they'd be complaining about Howard getting way too many calls. That's part of the game. For not having a guy over 6'8 though, we still won the rebounding battle, but that's about it. Good luck against UNC, hopefully your guys can keeping hitting your shots like you were today.

dont forget about taz.

My bad, I did read that this morning, either way, 60% of our starting fives haven't played in a tournament game to date.

i wasnt refering to the fact that we have these impressive big men, chris johnson is a bean pole and dudes that are wider than him eat him up. his length is our biggest asset inside.

and I was just saying that typically Howard will make up for his lack of height with positioning and footwork, though it could be tougher if Johnson is able to beat him to spots and can anticipate where he's going. We won't know how it goes until tomorrow.

butler beat xavier and ohio state, thats it. they are young and inexperienced. we make our shots, we win the game. simple as that. also the thing thats killed us all season is big men and butler doesnt have anyone over 6'8". if we play like we did the last week of the season, we lose. BUT we play our game, i think we'll be ok.

Butler only beat Xavier and lost at Ohio State by 3, don't give them too much credit! They've been young and inexperienced all season, and this is really both teams first tournament game. Temple did play for your final four team which will undoubtedly help, but both Veasley and Howard have a couple tournament games under their belt as well. Butler doesn't have a "big man" to speak of, but they did fair well enough against Ohio State, Xavier and UIC, who all have 7 footers. They aren't as athletic as Johnson, so there are differences to be sure, but they are used to being the smaller team. You hit the nail on the head and I too think it all just boils down to who's hitting their outside shots tomorrow and which team can execute down the stretch. Good luck tomorrow! (and throughout the tournament if you happen to win)
Thanks! Now I've got my profile changed

Do we stand a chance against Butler??????
Do your homework. LSU 5 seniors....Butler 1 and a lot of underclassmen...LSU by 15.....

Do YOUR homework - Butler has 0 seniors. Sometimes it can lead to problems in the tournament, and sometimes it can actually help. There's no pressure on them, so they should be able to relax and play hard.

They do have some bad losses, but they are a young team (5th youngest in the nation based on player personnel) so there will be inconsistencies. If it's a big name team or a team that people feel they shouldn't beat, they tend to get up for those games and play pretty hard. I would hope that they get up for this game being as it is their first tourney game (for this team).

Glad to see your contingent is joining in. Enjoy your stay here!

From what I've seen, it might be a rough one, but I'm looking forward to the matchup, it will be interesting for sure. We've had problems with SEC teams the last 2 seasons, so hopefully this year will be different!

Here's my own personal rundown of the Butler Bulldogs:

Starters:
Guard - Ron Nored - 6'0 Fr. He's really started to play a lot better as of late. As with most freshmen point guards, early in the season he would turn the ball over WAY too much, but is good at slashing to the basket and can get to the FT line where he has also improved immensely, but is still somewhat of a liability

Guard - Shelvin Mack - 6'3 Fr. He's probably the best playmaker on the team, very good at finding an open teammate. For the recruits we normally get, he and the rest of the freshmen are incredibly athletic. Good rebounder for a guy his size. Streaky shooter, but has been in a slump in the latter part of the season.

Forward/Guard - Gordon Hayward - 6'8 Fr. He has the potential to be the biggest matchup problem in the lineup. Usually just kind of floats around during games and can either disappear or score 10 points in a row. Was in the top 10 in our conference in darn near every category they have. Very good shooter.

Foward - Willie Veasley - 6'3 Jr. Best athlete, usually gets saddled with the opposition's best forward. A good rebounder for his size. Can sometimes be a good shooter from outside, but is good at getting dirty baskets.

Forward - Matt Howard - 6'8 Soph. Best and really only consistent inside presence. Has played well against 7 footers before, but I don't know if any of them are as athletic Johnson, but they were definitely bigger. If he gets touches the team usually plays better. Sometimes gets in foul trouble.

Bench Players:
Guards
Zach Hahn - 6'0 Soph. Good shooter, has a weird motion but is effective. Probably the best scorer that Butler has off the bench. Can sometimes make silly turnovers.

Shawn Vanzant - 6'1 Soph. Loves to play defense and can jump through the roof. Very streaky from deep. Just quick in general.

Forwards
Garrett Butcher - 6'7 Fr. Has really developed well during the year. Isn't a post presence offensively, but does score on putbacks and has a nice midrange jumper, though like Hahn, does look kind of funky.

Avery Jukes - 6'8 Jr. He's been injured as of late, but is really Butler's second best post defender. Occassionally can get hot from the outside. Strongest kid on the team.

Most of what you said is true, but Howard's only 6-8. I think the most interesting matchup is something that a lot of your fans have already posted up but it'll be who guards Tasmin Mitchell. We've had Veasley guard guys like Evan Turner before at Ohio State who's 6'8 and he did a fairly decent job against him, but we definitely won't put Hayward on him.
