+1

I went to a party thrown by one of my wife's relatives in McComb a few years ago about this time of the year. Walked in and saw a big crawfish pot boiling away and thought - maybe these people aren't the big redneck dorks I thought they were.

Then they took the lid off the pot and I saw that it was filled with peanuts and I knew I was wrong, they were hopless redneck dorks.

never bought them at a store, usually roadside stands.

Boiled peanuts are great.

The best boiled peanuts are the ones you do yourself. The smaller they are, the better they taste. I always cook them two ways- regular with a ton of salt and spicy with a ton of crawfish boil I boil them for a solid couple of hours and let them soak all night. YUMMY

I've never had them. How do they compare to the average run of the mill bag of peanuts?

Any boiled peanut is a good nut...........I like to boil extra and freeze for later use. Just defrost and heat in boiling water.

not similar at all. softer texture, juicy, no effort to peel at all. Great with cold beer...and they seem to taste better when eaten outside.

I like them big and to burst with salty juice when opened. I would never cook them in any of my good pots due to the corrosive salinity of the water. I use an old Magnalite Classic aluminum stockpot that is badly pitted from salt exposure. I add weird stuff to the boil such as bay leaves, vinegars, garlic and mustard. They always turn out great.

LOL

If I could type I could make the big bucks.

You have no idea of my disappointment when I saw peanuts instead of crawfish, I will never forgive the lowly berled peanut. These people's idea of gourmet food was finger sandwiches, no kidding.
