If we are going to old jokes, the waitress saw I was only able to eat about half my dinner, she asked "wanna box for that?"
"No, but I'll wrestle you for it".

I have always loved the "geezer eats" places, in BR most restaurants are staffed by college aged kids, I like a grouchy old fart with a rag on his arm. A few years ago, I ran into a waiter who knew my dad, he was over 80 and more of a historian than a waiter.
Geezer eats are where it's fun to engage with the server, maybe see the friends you have left and have great food.

Luckily, I've been in very view accidents, the last time I was rear ended while waiting for a light at Jefferson and College (BR). Clearly not my fault, but this black guy got out of his pickup raising hell, screaming and pointing at me. I told my wife to get back in the car and we drove around the corner and waited for the cops.
A witness got his license number, I had little damage, but there are a lot of lunatics out there, I'm not dying over a fender bender.

re: Is selling unhealthy fast food morally different than selling cigarettes?
Posted by andouille on 1/3/26 at 9:28 am to Ponchy Tiger
No, of course we can't ban fast foods, hell, we couldn't even ban cigarettes. Yes, a lot of the worst parts of fast foods have made it into the groceries stores, take a look at the frozen food aisles, it used to be mostly frozen vegetables, now it's got a large section of frozen fast food.
Freedom of choice doesn't have to be a suicide pact, in spite of what RFK Jr. is trying to do, if want our kids eating healthier foods, any change has to be consumer driven.
It has become too easy, and we've all done it many times, it's after work, you're tired, the kids are hungry, no one feels like cooking, just stop and pick up some Cane's or McD's and everyone is happy. But, is it best for the children, that is the dicussion we need to have.

But you see, some people do give a damn. That's who matters, the people who do give a damn, we don't like seeing the power of national advertising selling such blatantly unhealthy crap to children and people looking for the cheapest calories available.
Now we have Doordash and video games, and you look at crowd pictures from the beach in the 60's, where did all the skinny people go?
As a society we make these types of decisions all the time, everything from raw milk, to fireworks, to fentanyl. There is a fine line between freedom of choice and harm to people who assume that if you can buy it, it must be okay .
I don't see much difference between Todd Graves, McDonalds and the crack dealer, except that one isn't acceptable in our culture.

Is fast food responsible for the obesity crisis? Cigarettes certainly contributed to the premature deaths of many, does food laden with fat, sodium and sugar do the same.
We do all we can to discourage tobacco use, should we stop fast food from marketing to children?

Thanks a lot, mine hasn't bothered me in months, you reminded me and now it's all I hear. Seriously, long term solution is to have as much quiet time as possible, I know, they say "white noise" helps, but quiet heals.
It does fade into the background after a while, just close your eyes and think of England. I called the tinnitus hotline, but it just kept ringing.
re: How many pieces of jewelry can a gentleman get away with besides a watch and wedding ring?

I wear a watch by necessity, my wedding ring became a hazard in my work, I put it in a jewelry box and a cleaning lady stole it.

Those were the best, I got out of control and asked for one with provolone and eggplant, WOW. Pokie smiled, Vita snarled.

Naps are the reward for making it to 70. I didn't start taking intentional naps until about 3 years ago, an accident kept me immobile for 6 months, so why not. Now naps are sacrosanct in our home, "I need a nap" overrides all other duties and obligations.
I love the term "POWER NAP", as if something is being accomplished.

Regions Bank.
I sent my 12 y/o granddaughter a $100 check on my Regions account for her birthday, I asked her to send me a pic holding up her $100 bill when she cashed. She rode her bike to the Regions down the street to cash it. They charged her $6 to cash it.
I forgave them for putting Saban in their commercials, not for screwing a little girl out of $6. I closed the account by the end of the year.

We got the Gorgonzola pistachio sesame today, tempted to tear into it in the car, but wife made me wait until we got home. Seemingly unrelated components come together to form a delightfully tasty loaf.
For all the years I spend breadmaking and teaching it, Matt has mastered the art. When my doc said my A1C was getting high, I had to stop, at least now I have a source of real bread.
